I have been getting the error “Local area Connection: A network cable is unplugged” for a long time, and i noticed there is no Ethernet Cable plugged into my modem (An Intel(R) 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem) so i went out and bought a Dynex Cat6 Premium Network cable for Ethernet. Well i plugged one end in to the modem and the other into the back of my computer. The Ethernet light on my modem is still off, and it still gives me the “Network Cable Is Unplugged” error
is it just the cable or what?
any help is appreciated.
I must have the NIC Card since i dont know what else the Ethernet Cable would plug in to, but i dont know what the card looks like or what category it would be under in Device Manager

I am having a problem with one of my laptops at work. I have the laptop directly connected via CAT6 cable. Out of 33 laptops I am having one that is giving me this error: “The current time on this computer and the current time on the network are different”

I can connect if I use the laptops system admin login, but when I try to login using my network login it gives me that error. Has anyone else had this problem, and maybe know a fix?
The warning won’t allow me to login to Windows XP. On the DC running Windows Server 2003 R2 how can I force the laptop to update the time?
I found a simple solution to the problem. I took the laptop off the domain and added it to a work group. Then I just re-added it to the domain and it worked. Thanks for all the advice.

I have a DSL Internet connection, which works fine. However, when I turn on my computer, I get also a dial-up connection box that reads >select the service you want to connect to< . When I click on the >cancel< button for this message, another box appears that reads >Connecting to Broadband Connection 2. Connecting to WAN miniport (PPPOE)< . Clicking on >cancel< yet again for this second box brings up a third box that reads >Cannot Connect to Broadband Connection 2. Error 815<.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of the annoying connection-box messages?

I recently deleted a whole bunch or spyware from my cpu and now it is telling me it has limited or no connectivity. )I have cable with a router and the other cpu hooked up works fine) anyway I tryed renewing the address and it says “windows could not finish repairing because we failed to renew Ip address”. And when I go onto explorer ity says winsock has been corrupted. Any remedies? btw tried typing my address in internet options it then says it failed to ren DNS. Thanks in advance!

Iam trying to set up a linksys wireless router.I did the step by step process on the linksys help page and well it didnt help and Iam now halfway to crazy!!!! I never dreamed it would be this complicated!!!
I have AT&T DSL by the way!

Ok so i have it hookup up,I went to the linksys setup page -192.168.1.1
I went into my command prompt under ADMIN. and released the old IP address & renewed a new IP address.
I then clicked the local connection under “networks” and made sure the IPv4 is in a segment like such-169.xxx.xxx.xxx, it was.So I then went to the router setup page again.Clicked status and the ip address was all zeros,So i clicked DHCP RELEASE then DHCP RENEW ,thats didnt work of course!! So i went and changed it to PPPoE “like the linksys help page said” I entered my username and password I saved then went back to status clicked connect and it then said -Connecting (But NEVER connected) I dont know what Iam doing wrong.

Any ideas???

At&T wants more money to help and so does linkysys and I would rather figure it out if possible on my own.

Also When I tried to bring up a page with it connected it says -DNS ERROR -DOMAIN SERVER CONFIGURATION ERROR.

I am using my library’s computer to post this message.
My browser’s do not work.
I also get a message from Foxfire browser that the connection has been interrupted.
I have scanned for adware and viruses and seem to be clean.
One thing is that on my home computer I can bring up Yahoo but when I try to log on to my account it returns with a blank screen.
I can browse some websites but when the web page has to post some information from the screen it seems that it never gets back to the web hosting site and the server times out.

I have also tried HijackThis and the entries there do not seem strange.
Is it something to do with Winsock?
I have ordered a DSL modem from the phone company but would like to make sure my computer O/S is good before I install it.
Any suggestions?

at times, after i have LOGGED OFF the internet for about 3-4 days, i’ll go to get back on and POOF!! i get a telephony error saying i never logged off, and telephony logged me off…and then i can’t get back on the internet unless i restart my ‘puter…whassup???

The last time i had played online on my PS3 for +/- 10 hours, I turned it off and next time I try to sign in and show me a message “The PPPoE user name or password is not correct” I cant play online any more, but you think its just change to correct password, there is the problem I already did this and show me the same message, I don’t know what do cause I doing all right and don’t work, it can be a problem on my Playstation or it is a network error? It have something i can do to PS3 come back works?

I’m not sure what the problem is here. I’m trying to get my internet access working again on my Gateway (gt5034). I restarted my computer yesterday and suddenly there was no “local area connections” section under network connections. In my device manager, all of the listed network work adapters have yellow exclamation marks next to them. When I looked online for the driver to one of them (NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller), and tried to reinstall it, the update said it had an error and couldn’t finish installing.

I think from what I’ve read that some sort of virus or malware tries to install itself as an administrator and somehow deleted the main network driver. I’m not sure but I think the network adapter drivers are fine, I’m just missing the LAN driver. I want to reinstall it, but when I go to Gateway’s website, there are no matching network drivers for my computer. When I try to install what is availible like the NVIDIA motherboard package, it says there is an error and the installation has to clase.

I’ve run Malwarebytes, AVG, TrendMicro, and SDFix but none of those have solved the problem. Is there some way that I can manually reinstall or reactivate the Local Area Connection section on my computer? What should I do?

My laptop is unable to recognize any IP address. My internet provider, my computer company, and computer techs have no clue whats wrong.

Ive tried doing ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew, but they both tell me i am having an RPC Server Unavailable error. I have checked the RPC and all of its dependencies are working, so I have no clue whats wrong. I hear it could be a worm, so I reset the winsocks and typed netsh winsock reset into the commands, but that failed to work.

what do i do?

Unbeknown to me, my anti-virus software (ES ET Smart Security) was 19 days out of date ….. no reminders, nice.

Anyway, downloaded on my PC, transferred via usb pen drive and installed various new anti-virus & spyware softwares (AVG Free 8.5, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware) some which found nothing (?!) some which cleaned out / quarantined ‘a lot’ (unsure if I still have the logs).

Problem before was that couldn’t do anything without warnings (from ES ET Smart Security) popping up about the viruses and IE opening and trying to go to p0rn.com & vi@gra.org.

Seems like I have cleaned up the laptop now but cannot connect to any site (yahoo, facebook) without the HTTP Error 404. ‘Interestingly’ the auto navigate attempts to p0rn.com & vi@gra.org didn’t bring back any content either.

Emptied the browsing history & temp internet files, tried installing Firefox, have checked for updates to the A-V / Spy S/W and re-run scans ….. in desperation, tried ‘netsh Winsock reset’ in a CMD from advice here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892350/en-us ….. ooops, I now see I am actually on Win XP 2009 SP3 …..

Any suggestions (apart from staying off p0rn sites (I have not visited any p0rn sites (on that computer!)!)!) before I start taking random, drastic actions trying to guess my way through it?

I can’t renew my IP on my other computer cause it says The RPC server is unavailable. I tried the command “netsh winsock reset” and it doesn’t work it just says: Could not obtain host information from machine : [xxxx]. Some commands may not be available.

I updated DirectX and I even uninstalled my video card drivers then reinstalled itbut it still doesn’t work!!!!!
