I want to connect two 24 ports hub to each other.I want to connect it using cross-over cable as there is no uplink port on the hub.What should be the maximum distance between of the cable between the two hubs ?

I am in the middle of a migration from our mainframe. We currently use CA’s TCPAccess product for ftp and telnet. To cut costs I want to eliminate TCPAccess and use IBM’s TCPIP stack. I have “snake files” on the mainframe that look like 80 byte records but are in reality one big record that spans multiple 80-byte records. When I ftp using FTP2 under TCPAccess, the file is present to Unix as one big record. When I ftp using IBM’s product, it inserts a CR-LF at the end of each 80-byte record. I had used an XLATE table in CA’s product to eliminate the CR-LF but cannot find a way to eliminate them under IBM. BTW, I am running z/OS 1.4 and cannot upgrade the OS to 1.7 or 1.8 due to HW constraints so I am stuck with an unsupported OS. I am dumping redundant SW to save $ thru the end of the project.

so i need to have a static ip on my home network for port forwarding….so i setup the tcp/ip to do so, and it worked great.

then i got to school, and it wouldn’t connect…i realized it was the static ip, so i changed the tcp/ip config to “obtain ip address automatically”….and it works

whats lame is that in the tcp/ip config, there are radio buttons for the dynamic and static…lets say you put values in the static, then click the radio button for the dynamic, even though the static is disabled, it deletes all the values for the static.

so i get to school, disable the static…then when i get home, i have to manually re-enter the ip, mask, gateway and dns servers….this is a pain, and should not be….

is there anyway to have both these configs setup to work without manually re-entering the static info every time i get home?

can it be done with multiple profiles? i have a dell insprion E1505 laptop, which uses intel PROSet/wireless to connect to both my home and school

The distribution box is full of cat5 cable bundles that have not been labelled or properly terminated. Is there a way to feed/route a network signal into one outlet and have the other outlets actively receive and feed an internet signal, and function as a wired home network? I’d rather not add a connector to each of the 15 cables in the closet to test what leads to what? I would rather not have to purchase a multimeter if possible.

Remote sites are connected to internet through SDSL cisco routers, but they can’t talk to each other, while any remote office can talk to main office, and vise versa.

i don’t plan to put these computers on the net. i want to be able to move large files fast between the computers. windows xp pro. anybody have any ideas that don’t cost thousands?
