what is a router , where it is used. is there any difference between adsl modem, adsl router, and router.give me some help on managed switched i.e L1 & L2 swithces.

I use ZTE modem and it can only get EDGE network. On the other hand, my friend uses celcom broadband too but Vodafone modem and can get 3G network which is faster.

I dont want to have to spend a ton of money if i can get one cheap.Will i still get reliable,fast downloads with the $20 ethernet card?Im using a usb cable for my dsl modem because the ethernet option wont work for some reason.I bought a new Cat5e cable,im gonna see if that fixes the problem first.If that doesnt work im gonna try a new card.I know what the obvious answer is….the more money i fork out the better its gonna be.I just need to know if its gonna be at least a little better.The usb cable is working out ok….it has its days,but i want to switch to ethernet to see if i can make my movie and music downloads a little more peppy,things like that…Thanks
