i want my home network to have static ips. i disabled the DHCP server. however, even the in the tcp/ip settings i’ve chosen in another computer that connects to my router wirelessly, “i’ve selected obtain ip address automatically”, i am still able to access the internet.!
WHY?????

I have internet service, but (of course!) I can’t get past the “covering our butt” answers from my ISP to get a “real” answer.

When my DHCP lease expires, it does not automatically renew all the time. Some times it will, some times it won’t, and I get the famous “I can’t find the internet” page in my browser.

When this happens, I have to manually make my router release/renew its IP.

Why does this happen, and what can I do to make my IP renew automatically?

My connection has been working until about a week ago, when It started showing errors when I test my connection that they were “Unable to negotiate lease with DHCP Server”. I don’t really understand, I’m connected directly to my router and it was working before.

trying to determine if this should be on my pc or if someone is accessing all my info without my permission.

ok so i disble dhcp sever on my router (linksys g) and well no one can connect so i made my own ip addres and whatever, so yay it connected, but now when i type 192.168.1.1 and everything else, i cant acces the settings nothing was found. what to do. if it helps i also pressed the reset button on the router and also the router is a linksys wrt54g

i dont know how this works but looking at the list i can see my computer and my bros computer and then i see two mac address as well….what is going on here? is someone using my bandwith, heres what it looks like.

and the under it didn’t show any names but it was blank, however i see two mac addresses there, i want to know if they are mine or not

somehow i accidently turned off DHCP in my router settings.i don’t even know how to find the DHCP settings.but anyways i was hoping that someone would be nice enough to tell me how to find my settings.

dhcp can provide ipaddress to a machine. Will/can it also provide a hostname? My comp’s hostname changed when i connected to a LAN
