do i need a gigabit DHCP server for a gigabit network?

I have a Linksys WRT-300N router and i will very soon be installing a CAT6 full house Ethernet system, full gigabit, the router works fast enough for all wireless devices in the house, so i don’t want to replace it. but the “Mud” panel or switch panel i’m buying is gigabit, however the router is only 10/100, and will be used as the DHCP server, will this limit my entire system to 10/100? or will it still do 10/100/1000 for gigabit devices connected into the unmanaged switch panel?

Access Point – Enable DHCP or Not?

I have a wired router in my basement that is wired to an access point on my main floor. For some reason my iphone and Itouch have faster throughput and drop connections less often if I enable DHCP on the access point with a separate IP range? Why would this be? I would think that the router should assign all IP addresses to all nodes on the network for best performance.

Need help with DHCP packet tracer labs. Please!?

I am working on CCNA- accessing the WAN packet tracer lab 7.5.1. It is a DHCP lab, and I am stuck at only 69%. Any help on how to find the lab manual answers or help with DHCP would me great. thank!

Note: I’m not looking for an easy way out. Just some help, I have already finished the class. I’m studying for the CCNA exam and need some refreshing with DHCP.

Belkin Router DHCP issue?

I recently created a survey and put it on DMZ and then took it back off aftre i decided to start port forwarding.

Well, when i go to DHCP settings it ONLY shows the IP of my server and not the other 6 computers on my network.

The other computers are still connected to the internet, but when i ping them it says request timed out.

How do i fix this?
I meant DHCP client list, sorry.

Cisco DHCP ACL Question?

Quick question regarding a 2611 I have at home. I get my external address through DHCP, but after the lease time runs out, the ACL blocks any DHCP related traffic, therefore killing my web access until I disable the ACL.

I have UDP port 53 open on my ACL, what other ports do I need to allow?

DHCP and DNS problem?

This is a tough one. My XP is not working properly. DHCP and DNS are not working. Setting the IP address manually I can connect but DNS doesn’t work.
nslookup works fine, so it’s not a protocol problem or the network stack. I’ve rebuilt TCP and winsock already.
DNS doesn’t work for the applications. DHCP and DNS client services are working. I tried with the wireless card, the wired ethernet card and dialup. It’s the same problem with all of them.
I’m using a Sambar proxy installed on another machine and I can use connect fine. I disabled (almost) all software to do the test. So it’s not a firewall, anti virus problem.
I suspected a spyware/adware intercepting the network stack but I couldn’t find anything.

Any ideas?

Disabling DHCP on a wireless router?

Hi, I have 2 routers on my network, one wired and one wireless, and I simply want to disable the DHCP on the wireless router and use it as a repeater (and also a switch and wireless access point). How do you go about disabling the DHCP on a Linksys router (WRT160Nv2?)

To test the connectivity between TCP/IP hosts. ?

DHCP Clients list unknown?

I have recently logged in to my router and clicked on clients list.
I saw there names and IP of people I don’t know under the DHCP tab.
I can delete them but I don’t know what does it mean, do they have access to my internet? should I delete those unknown DHCP clients?
So I don’t need to delete those DHCP unknown clients?

Verizon DSL modem – no DHCP?

If I connect my PC or laptop directly to the Verizon DSL modem, it says ‘limited connectivity’ on the LAN connection. So, I set up a new connection to use PPPoE, enter my username and a password (will accept anything for a password), and it connects to the Internet just fine. An ipconfig command shows the PC’s IP and the gateway IP as the same address, an external 74.x.x.x address. Why is the modem not giving out an internal 192.x.x.x address? I don’t want to have to ‘connect’ every time I want to get online.
I might add that my neighbors have the same modem with Verizon DSL…and their modems do DHCP and provide an internal IP to the computer.
The modem is a standard issue Westell 6100 that Verizon seems to give to everyone. I asked both my neighbors. Both have the 6100 and both have their computers set to pick up an IP via DHCP. The just plug it in and they’re done. I have to connect via PPPoE, they don’t.
