I want to know if it’s possible to do this via FREE software (no trial versions).
If so, please tell.
I know I can transfer via usb 2 flash drive but that’s not a very fast way to do things.
Is samba designed to do this?
Please give EXTREMELY DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS because I’m very new to networking.
I don’t have a router and don’t want to buy one even if it’s very cheap.
I have a crossover cable (CAT5e).
I would like to be able to transfer documents in the future.
I know that there is software designed to decode documents between two different OS, but they can’t help me if I don’t know how to use them.
PLEASE HELP!

I had called Samsung and the lady told me to use a crossover. She didn’t sound very knowledgeable, that is why I am posting the question to the techies out there.
Thanks for the information. I verified with Netflix and BestBuy also. Patch cable! Thanks.

I have a CAT6 crossover cable connecting my Xbox 360 to a DLink Ethernet Switch, and the switch is connected a router using a CAT5E, which is connected to my modem using a CAT5E cable, by doing this my NAT type is now strict at my Xbox. I realize this is very much a (for lack of better words) clusterf***, but given my situation this is the only way I can see to route my internet, as the router doesn’t have enough ports to accommodate all the devices I have that use internet.

Can anyone give me a better solution, or maybe a way to make my NAT type be open at my Xbox?

Her computer doesn’t see mine in the workgroup, but pings it fine. So why would the connection work only one way & not the other?
Ran the network setup wizard, got nothin’. And we’re trying to do this without a hub… I know for a fact I should just be able to do this with just a cable, yet for some reason it’s not working.
Running XP, not vista.
I completely turned off windows firewall, and neither of us are running any alternate programs… at this point, I’m using a flash drive to take the data off, even though it’s longer, because it seems to be the only thing that’s guaranteed to work.

I am using 60 ft and they don’t connect for some reason. If I connect them using a much shorter ready made cable they connect. It could be a faulty RJ45 crimping job, but before concluding this I want to make sure it is not because of the length.
Oh and I tried a new cable too (same length). Same problem.
Ready-made cables are not an option because I need to pull it through tight pipes/trunks.

See our website for more information at: www.diablocable.com http How to connect two or more Cisco routers together in back-to-back configuration using crossover cable options. Connecting two or more Cisco routers together in a back to back configuration for a Cisco CCIE lab or demonstration environment is made easier by using Cisco crossover cables. These cables enable a user to cennect two routers that have WAN Interface Cards (or WIC) installed to create a router to router connection. The user may have either Cisco WIC-1T, WIC-2T, NM-4A/S, or NM-8A/S modules. Connecting the modules together in DTE to DCE configuration is made possible by using our serial and smart serial cable options. Older style serial (WIC-1T type) and newer style smart serial (WIC-2T type) can be used. Clocking is determined by the ends of the cable being wired as either DTE or DCE.

I have a gateway laptop and a dell computer which I wish to connect together for file sharing and gaming purposes. I have tried using a cat5 crossover cable with no success. I have no experience with home networking, so I need help from the ground up. A couple of problems I have encountered: when the cable is connected my laptop loses its wireless connection; the dell can see the gateway, but cannot access its shared files, however the gateway cannot see the dell at all. Any detailed help would be much appreciated
