Speed of fiber vs copper: gigabit ethernet?
Is the speed between two: 1000BASE-SX LC multimode 50/125um fiber modules
the same as between two: 1000BASE-T CAT5e modules
Assume: Gigabit ethernet protocol, length of cable/fiber is nominal (under 100 feet), all else is the same, connections are between two quality switches.
[I think I am getting hung up on LC having a separate send and receive fiber (asynchronous), so the related question is: does gigabit ethernet have a max bandwidth of ~1gb or ~2gb, or...?]
Can you install fiber converters on a copper CAT5 line without bottlenecking the bandwith?
Im trying to prove that the fiber converters will “Bottleneck” the bandwith if trying to convert from copper to fiber back to copper using converters only. And is it possible to get it to work right with just prchasing these components without a router or switch?
Jus to clear this up the ISP is on a CAT5 not at Fiber network so we would be going from a CAT5s to a fiber back to a CAT5 wouldnt the converter create alot of noise and disrupt the network?
CAT5 can olny push so much and we are not on a very high bandwith network, im thinking it will make the network worse on the other side with all the noise with the conversions, Wouldnt it be better to use a Wireless omini AP at the first point and second to bring the noise down?
Scharf,
I understand the network is run through fiber through different ISP’s that come through companies like Level 5. And I know that you can have a fiber network that transforms into CAT5 through switches (Did this whenI worked at CISCO Datacenters doing Layer I Engernerring). All I need is proof or someone to prove me wrong that you need more than a converter to have a fiber network in the buisness you work in. And that you need a ISP to provide you with a Fiber network and not just a basic cable network for small buisnesses to bridge the fiber from one point to the other. Here is the cloud: the network starts off from one building the CAT5 starts off from the wireless router goes to a converter that changes the copper to fiber, goes 300ft with fiber, goes beack to copper using another converter and to another building then spreads out in a smaller cloud for the workstations. Can this be done just using 2 Converters and a fiber cabel. Or is it better to go wireless 300ft
I used to build network clouds for a WISP once and thought it would be better to use a 15dpi network ap and jus shoot it 300ft (It can go 1.5mi). Than doing the fiber conversion.
A few questions about copper and recycling it.?
I have some copper wire and cable and was wanting to know the classification the fall under. The cable is cat6. Its not the skinnier cat6, it has some paper around it. the outer one is white then its the silver one followed by the twisted pairs. then i have come co-ax and 18-2 (is the only was i know it by, all i know its the power to security cameras. then the wire is.. well its different gages of wire but its actual wire that comes if different colors for the electricians. just let me know the classification it falls under. when i called the scrap yard she asked me if i had insulated wire or… well i cant remember the other word so i just said insulated. lol. anyways the other question i have is when is the best time to recycle my wire to get the biggest bang for my buck! i just finished looking at the charts for the price of copper and it was at its lowest at the beginning of the year does it start like that every year? please help i have all this cable and wire stacked up and i wanted to scrap it before xmas to have some extra xmas money but if i should wait til the beginning of the year to get alot more i figured i would wait. HELP
is copper expected to rise soon? the other day i called the scrap yard and she told me 98 cent- to 1.98 for wire. and now she said 21 cents-1.12 how did drop so much?
Why does analog phone cable have 6 copper wires when it only uses one pair of them?
I work with Cat5e networking cable all the time, but every once in awhile we have to do an analog phone drop, so why is it that analog phone cable uses an RJ-11 plug and has three copper pairs, when it only uses one?
how do you figure out attenuation loss of copper wire?
like Cat5e Cat6 Rg59 rg6 and awg sizes…. the attenuation of these per 1000 ft
Cat5 copper cable, health & safety issues. Does anyone know whether there are any specific issues that I have?
to be aware of if I wish to run a cat5 externally (temporarily). Some people are telling me this is now illegall, some are saying there are specific health & safety issues, but I do not know what they are? Can I insist the cable has to be protected by rubber sleeving?

Does moisture cause tarnish on phone copper wires and affect phone service (but not ADSL)?
I experienced loud crackling noise on my phone. Phone company repair man came out and tested good to my 8th floor junction box, but not to my 8th floor apartment. He said there were 4 pairs of wires available. He previously jumped from Pair #1 to #2 on similar complaint. Now he is jumping from #2 to #3. I have one last pair left. He suggested moisture and water in wire conduits causing copper to rust, then, when lit up, rust turns to “copper tarnish” which degrades signal. But while my phone stopped working (no dialing in and out), ADSL for Internet access still works. Do I really need to pull out old wiring as he suggested or is there another simpler remedy? Also, if there are bridge taps (wires branched out to various other rooms in the apartment), do I need to look for a junction box in my wall before pulling the wires out?

what is the best way to use two diff ADSL connections on two diff copper phone lines on single computer?
what is the best way to use two diff ADSL connections on two diff copper phone lines on single computer to increase the bandwidth. and then share it restricting access and bandwidth thru ip/mac address.do i need to install server 2000 or make eza server or a simple softwear like midpoint teamer can join two adsl connections what is the best way.
