What ethernet cable should I run and with what end connectors?
I am having to re-route a cable to be able to relocate our tv to a different part of the room. I thought that I may as well run an ethernet cable at the same time (for the Tivo, Slingcatcher etc). I am going to run both cables at high level and cover with crown molding so they won’t be accessible after the event.
I’m thinking that Cat6 cable is a good choice. I’ll terminate with those in-line faceplate couplers so that I don’t have to deal with making the connections.
Is this the right way to do it? I vaguely remember something about connectors causing “reflection” or something like that.
Many thanks
I installed cat5e wiring using “Type B” RJ45 jacks and Leviton Quickport connectors T568B. It does not work
I installed cat5 wiring using RJ45 connectors at one end and Leviton Quickport Connectors at the other…
The RJ 45 plugs are wired using “Type B” wiring (Brown, Brown/White, Green, Blue/White, Blue, Green/White, Orange, Orange/White). The Quickports are wired using T568B wiring… None of them work.
Did I cross wires or should I use Type A on one end and type “B” on the other? I’ve doubled check the placement of the RJ45′s to make sure I did not hook them up backwords, it all seems good.
Any ideas?
Thanks to anybody who can help!!!
How do you put connectors on a Cat 5 Cable?
I bought a role of cat 5 to run my telephone lines, now I need to make one cable that runs to a spare bedroom directly from my router to my computer, what’s the cheapest way to do this? I’ve seen wall plates at radioshack but they were $10 bucks! crimp tools aren’t cheap either, don’t they have just a couple of cat5 connectors that snap on like a line tap or something?
How do I crimp cat5e or Cat6 with phone line connectors?
Back when I got U-verse for my internet they couldnt get a clear enough signal through the coax cable so they came in through the phone line. Recently the dog ate the cable from the phone line to the Modem so I bought a new phone cable for it. When I replaced it I noticed they didnt actually use phone line, they used cat5e with a phone connector (RJ11 I think) I havent been able to find any information on what order to crimp 5e or 5 with those type connections. Anyone know? Also, the phone line works, and I have the net right now, but ive capped out at 17.1 mb/s instead of the usually 18-18.5. Not a big drop I know but im pretty sure its just the cable.
Need help with Cat6 wiring with RJ45 connectors?
I’m trying to connect my bsnl UT300R2U adsl modem with my laptop in another room (distance approx 15m) through ethernet port (USB port is already being used by the desktop).I had already connected to internet successfully though a readymade short 1.5m ethernet cable which came with my modem.
So I went ahead and brought 15m Cat6 cable, two RJ45 connectors & a crimp tool. I followed TIA 568-B wiring standard for patch i.e straighthrough cable since i’m connecting pc with modem. But i’m not able to connect to internet with the cable i’d fixed. I didnt buy a network tester due to budget constraints.
pls let me know if i’d done anything wrong thnx
yes it does support both simultaneously … i’ve checked it.
How can i interconnect CAT5E CABLES (with RJ45 Connectors) and fibre-optic cables (with SC connectors)?
Hi, My goal is to connect CAT5E cables to an optical distribution frame, how can i do this
Do I need to use “special” CAT6 RJ45 connectors on CAT6?
I have a ton of CAT5e RJ45 connectors I would like to crimp onto CAT6 cable – TECHNICALLY they are not CAT6 but do not see much of a difference. I have done a few already with no prbs but have many more to do and don’t want to have to redo them. My CAT6 is SOLID and the connectors are for solid and not stranded.
Can I put Cat6 connectors on Cat5 cable?
I have a lot of Cat5 cable but can’t seem to find any connectors. I’m ordering stuff from monoprice.com and thought about buying a bag. Since I’m “investing” in this stuff, I’d like to buy Cat6 connectors but want to make sure it’ll work with my Cat5 cables.
Also, if I don’t buy the right one (stranded or solid) will that make much difference? I’m pretty sure I have stranded, but not 100% sure.
Thanks for the answers. I’m fine with the slower network. For now, I probably won’t even use them (there are a few cables I’d like to shorten, I hate having a 6ft cable connecting the modem to the router that’s right next to it).
I just hate buying a 100pk of Cat5 connectors when I’ll be buying Cat6 cable whenever I really do need to do some networking.
But really, with wireless so easy and cheap now, that may not even be an issue.
Where is a good place to purchase cat5 cable, cat5 connectors and related tools?
I need to find an online retailer that sells good cat5 cable, rj45 ends (male and female). Also, the required tools would be nice (crimpers and punch down). Thanks
Where can I get cat5e connectors?
I need cat5e connectors. Only two though. I saw them online in bulk for like 100. Radioshack didnt have any. Im from Duluth MN btw.
Can I add CAT3 cable to a bridge board with CAT5 connectors?
My house has a bridge telephone board with CAT5 wires running from it for our phone system. We are adding 3 more phone lines, but we used traditional phone line, not CAT5. Is the traditional phone line compatible with the CAT5?
Am I able to use RJ45 connectors with bulk cat5e Ethernet cables?
I’m planning to make a 100FT Ethernet cable for my 360. But I’m unsure if I’m able to use RJ45 connectors with Cat5e cables. Is this right?
