2 dsl connections on one router, what does that do?
Hi,
I have a dsl connection at home where I have to connect to a wireless router and then enter my information to connect to dsl connection (I think it’s called pppoe). When I go to my parents place with my laptop, they have it set up so that the router is automatically connected to the internet. When I connect to their internet, my connection automatically connects also, thus having (to my understanding) 2 dsl connections going on at once since both are seen.
I was wondering, is there any benefit for this to happen? what exactly is the point of this? What are the disadvantages? Does the bandwidth use go on my account or hers?
Thanks for any advice about this situation
My router is not able to be configured because it used to be a bell router and only allows me to only use bell info for login (username is : b1______ – this is not similar to my teksavvy username connection and thus I can’t set it up). That is why I have to connect to the router wifi and then dial in my info for the dsl internet connection to work. This connects (dials) to my dsl account automatically once I connect to my router which is why when I’m at my moms and connect to her internet (bell), I also get my connection (teksavvy) going.
I would just like to specify that the bell username in router for automatic connection with router shows the “b1″ in the username that I can’t change.
Internet Connections- FCC regulations?
I have used both a wireless and hardwire connection for broadband internet. I realize that my broadband connection has a limit of 100MBPS. I also realize that T1, T2, or T3 connections are much faster.
My wireless operates at 54 MBPS. I experience more lag and freeze ups watching streaming video with the wireless.
My question…Are the wireless connections limited by FCC regulations or is the slowness just a product of the technology?
Also…Since my wireless runs at 54MBPS with a 100MBPS broadband connection, would the wireless run faster with a T1 connection to the router, or are there FCC limitations?
Oh yeah Joe, The router does run a little hot, but it’s been going strong for 2 years now. It’s a bit different than the one on the jump, with the two adjustable antennae for directional output.
I have the Linksys B,G,N Router but my laptop only has B,G. I guess I need to find my Belkin N USB wireless receiver and reinstall on the laptop. I removed with the last factory return for repair.
I had no idea that the N spec was faster, only better range.
Thanks for all the input….JT
the dns server wont connect? all my connections say local only?
im having a few problems connecting to the internet with a laptop, on both networks it tells me when i try to connect that the connections is local access only, so i cant access the internet, i have reset my winsock, i have flushed my dns cache, and also i have tried to ping multiple ip addresses and it just comes up saying this
1.0.0.1:53
DNS server timed out
time out time was 2 sec
Dns server timed out
time out time was 2 sec
also, more information, i have just resently reset mycomputer to factory conditions because when trying to delete symnatec from the computer it wiped out half my programs
when i connect via landline or wireless, it just says that my DNS server isnt connecting right and that i should contact my administrator or provider
when i try to connect via only landline, it tells me that there is a problem connection then it suggests that i reset my network adapter
when i do this ipconfig/all it just tells me a bunch of connections, but on all the connections it says the DNS settings then its blank next to this,
also i have turned of firewalls, and any and all other things
the same thing happened on the computer i am currently talking on, but the problem was resolved by a network provider
and we cant contact them because they are not open right now ![]()
also i have a Sprint wireless card but thatss what it says has the problem with dns
also im running windows vista home premium
it seems resetting the dns cache did the trick for setting up a landline connection, but the wireless still comes up not available except for local access only
ok i took your advise, i tired resetting, also reset the router, also reset my connections to the router and connected via ip, checked if it was on (answer is yes) checked to see if the router was constant (also a yes)
any other ideas?
you can contact me on yahoo messenger

i will try to provide more info such as excactly what the computer says when i IP config /all

i have diferent internet connections in my wireless USR5462 ROUTER. i can open bot of them at the same time on my computer, because one is PPPOE and the other is Static IP adress. Is there a program where i can use 2 at the same time, instead of only 1, even thought 2 are open at the same time too?

How can I set my laptop to access two Internet connections?
I use a laptop at home and work. At home I have a PPPoE broadband conection. At work I connect through my LAN to the corporate Internet access server. How do I set up two separate connections so that I do not have to re-enter the TCP/IP setting each time I change the connection.
Can this computer get 5Ghz band connections?
I have an HP G60-235WM Notebook PC with an 802.11b/g wireless LAN (I know the b/g means I can’t get an N connection), but the computer also says I have an NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Networking Controller. Not sure what that is. Anyway. I just got a new router. A Linksys Dual-Band N Wireless Router and am currently running it on a 2.4Ghz Mixed signal with the channel set to Auto. Whenever I try to set it to 5Ghz, my laptop won’t pick up any signal and I have to plug my laptop into the ethernet in order to change the router back to 2.4Ghz to use wireless again. Please help. I’ve been getting really slow internet lately and am trying to figure out the issue. (I just upgraded TODAY to 10Mps from 3Mps, and the speedtest I took online said I’m only getting 1-2Mps)
Okay. My current connection (according to what I read from the properties of the connection through my laptop) is 802.11n… what does that mean? xD

How can i get rid of the PPPoE connection in my network connections?
when im online, the internet begins to act weird. I have Time Warner Cable as my internet provider, after a while of being online, a popup comes up that say
connecting thorugh WAN Miniport (PPPoE)
Error 815: the broadband connection could not be established on you rcomputer because the remote server is not responding….
and something else i cant remember, at the bottom i have three options which are Redial = 60 (the 60 is the amount of time i have in seconds before it redials itself), Close, and Diagnose
i cant even click on the webpage and its really annoying, so i have to close the popup and close the dial up connection box. i chatted with a TWC help suppert, and told me they dont support dial up or VPN, and thats exactly what the connection is listed under in my network connections. my internet connection is under a specific name, im connected to that, but somehow im also connected to the PPPoE crappy thing…..its soooo annoying, so if anyone knows of a way to fix that problem and can help me, i would really appreciate it. also if any more info is necessary, I’ll gladly give it to u for assistance. i tried conatacting lynksis, which is the company of my router, lynksis wrt54g v3.1 is my router, and they told me my….insurance?, i forgot the other word, was expired, so i had to look in a website of their or pay 30 bucks for phone help to fix this one problem…..thats BULLSHIT!! but seriously, i would really like some help with this….thank you
wifi IPAD vs. IPOD wi-fi connections. DHCP Lease time? Power settings?
Comparing the IPAD and the IPOD wi-fi signal strength and ability to hold that signal. The design of the iPad’s internal radio and the software for DHCP may be the culprit.
What are the cheapest for each type of internet network connections? For dial-up, dsl/cable 256/768, t1, etc.?
I want to know the cheapest for dial-up (56k), dsl/cable (256k and 768k), t1 (1.5m), t2 (6m), t3 (45m), services out there and also for other internet connection types that I haven’t listed.
OC-3 is another one I just found.
Not looking for anything specific, just to see what could be in my budget. Netzero has a 3g dial-up connection, but have no idea how fast it is. T1 stuff are pretty much not worth it to me but never know.
Why are faster connections so expensive anyway?
What’s the difference between these connections?
What is the difference between DHCP, PPPoE, Static IP, PPTP, L2TP, TELSTRA? I’m trying to set up my wireless router but I don’t know which connection to choose.

Cisco Crossover Cable for Router Connections
See our website for more information at: www.diablocable.com http How to connect two or more Cisco routers together in back-to-back configuration using crossover cable options. Connecting two or more Cisco routers together in a back to back configuration for a Cisco CCIE lab or demonstration environment is made easier by using Cisco crossover cables. These cables enable a user to cennect two routers that have WAN Interface Cards (or WIC) installed to create a router to router connection. The user may have either Cisco WIC-1T, WIC-2T, NM-4A/S, or NM-8A/S modules. Connecting the modules together in DTE to DCE configuration is made possible by using our serial and smart serial cable options. Older style serial (WIC-1T type) and newer style smart serial (WIC-2T type) can be used. Clocking is determined by the ends of the cable being wired as either DTE or DCE.
