Okay, I’ve been toying around with some stuff, on a computer i have. I’ve connected a cat5 from the on board LAN into my router, I’ve a USB wireless receiving device connected, and i have a wireless pci card connected. I live in an apartment complex so there are millions of unlocked routers all over the place. I’ve actually got each device connected to a different internet connection. Is there a way i could use this to my advantage to increase my download/upload rate?

Hi, I presently have a home network set up with my Linksys 300N acting as the router for all my wired and wireless connections. I am doing major construction on my house and want to run wired cat5 or 6 to each bedroom and to my home theatre setup and to all my kids game consoles. This means I will need many wired networked connections (I will guess about 15-20) along with keeping the wireless ability for my laptop, etc. What type of unit will I need to accomplish this and how does it hook up to my existing router please? My exisiting router is directly hooked up to my cable modem from Cablevision.

I am trying to connect my PS3 to the Internet via my laptop. My laptop has a built in wireless card and can connect to the internet. The PS3, however, cannot. I have connected it before to the internet via plugging it into the computer with an ethernet crossover cable and bridging the two connections. However, this time it is not working. I have done this before, but now it won’t work. Any help?

I have Verizon FiOS cable and internet. I have just moved into a cat5 wired house. Every room has a cat5 connection and I would like to take advantage of them. In the garage by the FiOS box is a panel that all the cat5 connections are wired to. Do I need my FiOS router in my garage in order to get internet through the cat5 panel? Or can I just run a cable from the white Verizon box at the port where it says “Ethernet connection,” to the cat5 jack on the cat5 panel?

The main distributor FiOS box is on the wall next to the patch panel in the garage, the FiOS router is hooked up through a splitter to one of the cable coax connections in a room of the house.

My main question is can I use the switch and connect an Ethernet cable to the ether net port on the main distributor FiOS box, then to the switch, then another cable to the patch panel to make it work? Or do I need to have the cable router in the garage with a splitter from the main cable feed?

I have a dsl connection at home where I have to connect to a wireless router and then enter my information to connect to dsl connection (I think it’s called pppoe). When I go to my parents place with my laptop, they have it set up so that the router is automatically connected to the internet. When I connect to their internet, my connection automatically connects also, thus having (to my understanding) 2 dsl connections going on at once since both are seen.

I was wondering, is there any benefit for this to happen? what exactly is the point of this? What are the disadvantages? Does the bandwidth use go on my account or hers?

My router is not able to be configured because it used to be a bell router and only allows me to only use bell info for login (username is : b1______ – this is not similar to my teksavvy username connection and thus I can’t set it up). That is why I have to connect to the router wifi and then dial in my info for the dsl internet connection to work. This connects (dials) to my dsl account automatically once I connect to my router which is why when I’m at my moms and connect to her internet (bell), I also get my connection (teksavvy) going.
I would just like to specify that the bell username in router for automatic connection with router shows the “b1″ in the username that I can’t change.
