What are the correct configuration parameters for a D-Link (DI-524) DSL Router with Talk America DSL? I set up the router to use PPPoE with the Talk America username and password with no success. I also tried dynamic IP with no luck. I called Talk America and their evening tech support couldn’t help me (as in, I could have told the guy that we didn’t have enough gigawatts for the flux capacitor and he still would have told me that the day support team would be able to answer my question during normal business hours).

Somebody has to have used Talk America via a DSL router before and I’m sure there’s some minor setting to change, but I don’t have the time to spend hours working through th permutations. Can anyone out there help?
Ok… I got someone else on the phone at Talk America and they gave me the correct info. It turns out is does not use PPPoE at all (bad info from first support call). They use an internal static address. I went into the router, set the WAN to static IP and entered the following:
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS: 71.4.96.36
Secondary DNS: 71.4.96.44

After applying that, it worked, the internet is grand and life is good again.

Overall, Talk America is much cheaper than others, but in support you get what you pay for. The DSL support is only available from 8AM-5PM (this is for home service — don’t they realize I have a job to go to?) and apparently the non-DSL support team feels free to adlib and hand out bad info. AND, they have none of the configuration infomation available anywhere online (at least nothing that returns via Google).

I have a Cisco Catalyst 3548 XL switch which I want to configure with VLANs and other stuff but I don’t want to spend hours or even days playing around on the command line. Is there a quick setup tool that can at least cook up a basic configuration that I can upload to the switch?
Cisco Configmaker does not support Catalysts. Certainly not the 35XX series.
