I’m just wondering the basics of LAN. All I’ve got is 1 CAT5 cable and two computers… Is there anything else that is essential to me?
I’m only doing this to play a game with my friend (NOT ONLINE)

I have a cable modem and wireless router in my office. There are 3 desktop computers outside that I assume cannot pick up the wireless signal. What is the best way for me to get them online through the wireless? Do I need to buy a device for each computer or is it possible to put another router out there and connect them together?

I have 4 ports in the back of the modem. I have one cat5 cable to one computer and that works. But when i connect a second cat5 cable from a second port to the second computer the device on that computer says the cable is not connected or is unplugged ( it’s not! ).

I am asking a very abstract question. So, I hope you wouldn’t mind.

Is there a direct connection between computer technology and telecommunications technology?

For example, is there a link between topics concerning networking, tcp/ip, domain conrollers, etc and topics relating to telecommunications, GPRS, telephones, cell phones etc?

Or are they just 2 different issues brought to work together?

I want to connect two computers for data transfer using an Ethernet cable. Can I use any Ethernet cable without damaging my computers?

Or is there a special data transfer Ethernet cable I need to buy?

And do I need new drivers to conduct data transfer?

Hi, I have a smallish home network. Some devices are hard wired others wireless. The speed is OK, but I want it faster for the laptops. I have a linksys wireless g router and a Motorolla surfboard modem. Will swapping out one or both will make an impact on speed? advice? I am a Comcast (reluctant for ten years) broadband subscriber.

I have an inkjet printer, desktop PC, a laptop, and a D-Link wireless router. Can I leave my printer plugged into my desktop and network it so that I can print to it from my laptop, via the router?

I have one computer with cable broadband and on the other I use dial-up. I use a thumbdrive to transfer large files from one to the other, but this seems silly. I have got a cheap router that we got when we had our internet upgraded. The problem is that, whenever there is more than one computer using the wireless network things get really really slow. So, my question is, what is the best router for multiple computers and devices(I also have my PS3 hooked up to the wireless network). i am having trouble trying to get two laptop to see each other. i am using a Cat5e crossover cable and have set up the network. they have the same workgroup name, i am not sure what to do.

I have a Comcast provided wireless router at home.
4 of us can surf the net with no problems. However a 5ht and a 6th computer cannot be used to connect to the Internet. Is there an upper limit on how many computers can talk to the Internet when one uses a wireless router? Or is there something we are doing that is not right?

Here’s the situation:

I have a modem which have 4 connections. 1 of them is connected to a wireless router and 3 others to computers. When I connect to the router, I can see the workgroup computers of others who use wireless. However, I can’t see the workgroup computers of those connected to the modem.

Any way to solve this?
