Yesterday the power went out and i have a battery back up so i promptly shut down my machine. I go back today and the computer will turn on but a second later shut down. Now the computer, monitors and the router is all powered by this supply and no damage was done to anything else. Also we have 2 other computers, with no protection, hooked up to this network as well as a switcher and some game consoles. Everything else is fine and works as intended. The one thing that i didnt have protected is the cat5 cable. Been meaning to get it protected but didnt have a spare cable to connect from the supply to the computer. Even though the cable itself wasnt protected the router was, can the surge skip the router and just damge the motherboard? So it seems that my motherboard is shot and need to now be replaced. Funny how the only computer with anysort of “protection” gets damaged…

others : I have tryed to plug the computer into the wall different outlets, everything, the Power supplie powers up the monitors and router fine and to me is working as intended. The battery back-up is a APC BACK-UPS ES 8 Outlet 650VA 120V which has surge protection so i dont think it would be power supply. Fans/sinks are all fine. All fans turn on and i dont hink anything has a chace to over heat. the computer stays on for no more them a second

Ive restarted my Modem and my Router, but only my computer reaches the internet. I want to be able to play Xbox Live and be on the computer(internet) at the same time. My router is a NETGEAR Dual speed hub ds104, whenever i go to the network settings on xbox it tells me to restart my modem or router.

I just got an XBOX 360 and I can’t figure out how to download my media onto my XBOX hard drive from the computer. I hooked up my 360 to the back of my computer where I would usually hook up the CAT5 cable to go to the modem. I opened Windows Media 11 and turned media sharing on but my XBOX still won’t find my computer. If it helps I have a router I can hook my 360 and computer up to if I need to.

i have an old computer with XP, i use an ADSL modem. Antivirus is ZoneAlarm. It simply refuses to connect, the modem is OK, I tried it on a laptop and it connects well. I tried safe mode, reinstalled the ZoneAlarm, tried to use AVG free edition, no result.

I recently purchased a Windows vista operaitng Sony Vaio labtop. I commute a lot and like to bring m labtop along. I have purchased a Verison Broadband card for my old labtop in order to get a connection on the bus while I commute. I wnated to place it in my new labtop but I can’t find a port/slot to insert it. What should I do?

I was looking for a solution for my father to access the internet in a quicker fashion that the dialup he is currently using. He lives in rural kentucky where broadband access is not available.

My question is whether or not a Broadband USB card could be used on his windows vista desktop pc to access the internet?

I have a westall 327 wireless dsl/router modem. My Vista PC is connected by cat5 to router, XP pc is connected via wireless. This is not as easy controlling my home network as XP was. I like Vista, so NO VISTA HATERS please.

I usually have a wireless connection. I understand why ethernet makes the internet faster, but why does it feel like programs open up faster and run smoother than when i’m on my wireless internet connection?

I nicked the outdoors broadband cable that runs to this computer while trimming some hedges. The cut isn’t too deep or big, but I did cut through the top two insulation wrappings and I think i can see little bit of the metal beneath. For now I have wrapped the nick tightly with electrical tape. I haven’t noticed any change in Internet speed.

I suppose a supplemental question would be can they splice around the nick or do they have to replace the whole cable.

I connected a Cat6 Cable from the back of my new computer to the router, and i thought thats all i had to do, So i tried to install my OPTUS ISP Disc, But it still didnt work, It failed the Subnet Tests or something, How would i set up internet to work on this new computer?
