Can I have a Windows XP comp and a Windows 2000 comp on the same network?
I have one computer with Windows XP and another with Windows 2000. I am trying to connect them with a CAT5 Crossover cable, which I know is supposed to work. On my XP comp I ran a setup for a home or small office network, and then made a network setup disk to set up my Windows 2000 comp and get it on the network. But the Network Setup Wizard doesn’t work with Windows 2000. I know Windows XP comps and Windows 2000 comps can be on a network together, they have it at my school. How can I connect these two computers? Please be as detailed with your instructions as possible, while still remaining clear. Thanks.
I have 512kbps ADSL Connection, I connect modem to comp using USB, is it better to use Ethernet Port?
My ADSL connection speed is 512kbps & since I don’t have any network adapter (or Ethernet Port), I use USB Port for connecting my ADSL Router to my computer.
Considering my connection speed, is it worth it to get a network adapter (for Ethernet) or are they any advantages using Ethernet port? (like more download speed, bandwidth, etc.) or it just doesnt matter?
Ok so one comp in my house has internet. I have no wifi. I also have a laptop. question??
I know i can get wifi hooked up but I tried it once and didnt work and was expensive. I just went to best buy and bought a CAT6 premium network cable. I was told to plug it into my laptop and into the modem. Problem is, when I got home there was no extra space in the modem. Or in the back of the computer. There is one space for this size cable in the modem but its occupied by a cable that goes to the back of the computer. Im not sure where I should put the cable. please help thanks in advance

can i setup my comp to have a static IP at home & dynamic at school w/out changing the TCPIP config each time?
so i need to have a static ip on my home network for port forwarding….so i setup the tcp/ip to do so, and it worked great.
then i got to school, and it wouldn’t connect…i realized it was the static ip, so i changed the tcp/ip config to “obtain ip address automatically”….and it works
whats lame is that in the tcp/ip config, there are radio buttons for the dynamic and static…lets say you put values in the static, then click the radio button for the dynamic, even though the static is disabled, it deletes all the values for the static.
so i get to school, disable the static…then when i get home, i have to manually re-enter the ip, mask, gateway and dns servers….this is a pain, and should not be….
is there anyway to have both these configs setup to work without manually re-entering the static info every time i get home?
can it be done with multiple profiles? i have a dell insprion E1505 laptop, which uses intel PROSet/wireless to connect to both my home and school
FYI, i have not played around with different profiles and setting, because i just have not had the time, and can’t afford to waste time fiddling around. What better way to save time then to ask an expert who has had success.
Thanks

In February my motherboard broke, so instead of sending it back i bought a newer cheaper one. I recently sent it to the manufacturer for repairs and now have it back and working! but when i installed my graphics cards they both broke, so i sent them in last Thursday and got them today! Turns out that one works but is flashed with the wrong graphics cards bios (that of an GTS 250), and the second one is broken!
I called tech support, after weighting for 20 minutes finally got through and talked to somebody (from America) they had no idea how to fix it! So the guy transferred me to Advanced Tech support to discuss issues and ways to fix things. That guy told me that he fixes the parts and that he sent me the 2 graphics cards in perfect condition. He told me to send them back! i said well one works and Ive been w8ing for ever to play a game, so i will send the broken one back. On Monday i am sending it back! S&H costs $13 and free for return!
Right now if i try to play a game on the card thats flashed wrong, it last only about 10 minutes then blue screens! ive rolled back, updated, reinstalled, etc. I cant take this anymore, I want to sell it but I don’t know how much for! I hate ebay so I am going try to sell it on the Craigs… give me an idea of anyway i can fix this fail computer or and ideas about how to sell this damn thing
don’t give me tips about getting a new psu or ram, etc. Ive been on forums and talked to local computer shops and they said the whole set up is perfect!
I don’t have money to add anything

My comp freezes and then crashes?
my comp seems to randomly freeze for 5 seconds, then unfreeze for 5 seconds, then freeze, then unfreeze, freeze, unfreeze, and so on til it decides to just shut off completely. when i restart and go into my event viewer, i see several Tcpip warnings “TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.” but that’s all that happens…then an hour later the freezing starts again. it just started doing this today and i’ve never had the problem before…i haven’t changed anything on my comp…but it’s getting really really annoying. anyone have any idea what’s doing this? could it be VNC?
i’ve ran AVG in safe mode, and a program that virus scans in the ram without loading windows at all. both came up clean. my router has a fire wall and i can guarantee this computer has much higher security than any average computer user. i actually have an idea of what the problem MIGHT be, but i’m not sure…since it randomly shuts down, it’s hard to test. i think the router i’m connecting to while using VNC is having issues…is it possible that my connection could be dropping for a sec, then reconnecting, and over and over til i have too many connections and my comp shuts down?
Help me virus is taking over my comp!!!! (hijack report included) plzz help?
This is my hijack report! Iam getting pop ups i tried every antivirus known to man delted cookies etc etc
