Will a Cat6 Ethernet cable work with a Cat5 Cable splitter?

I’m trying to hook my XBOX 360 Slim to an Ethernet cable for a more stable connection when playing online. Will a Category 6 Ethernet cable work with a Category 5 Cable Combiner/Splitter?
OK, forget the original question. Here’s a new one.

From start to finish, what EXACTLY do I need, besides an Ethernet cable, to connect my XBOX with an Ethernet cable? The guy at Radio Shack said I need a Fast Ethernet Switch by NETGEAR. Does it come with a cable to connect the switch to the computer? All I want is a straight-forward answer with minimal technical talk. And I’m possibly going to do this whole wired connection instead of wireless because I never have consistency in my online gaming.

Multicolored 3′ CAT5e or CAT6 Patch Cable?

Best answer award will go to the person who gives me an online link to buy a multicolored patch cable. (Not a single color per cable, but multiple colors in one cable – like stripes, or different colored connectors, etc…)

How do I crimp cat5e or Cat6 with phone line connectors?

Back when I got U-verse for my internet they couldnt get a clear enough signal through the coax cable so they came in through the phone line. Recently the dog ate the cable from the phone line to the Modem so I bought a new phone cable for it. When I replaced it I noticed they didnt actually use phone line, they used cat5e with a phone connector (RJ11 I think) I havent been able to find any information on what order to crimp 5e or 5 with those type connections. Anyone know? Also, the phone line works, and I have the net right now, but ive capped out at 17.1 mb/s instead of the usually 18-18.5. Not a big drop I know but im pretty sure its just the cable.

Running Cat6 cable through interior walls and floor to wire media center?

I am tired of my media center and xbox extender connecting (or not!) wirelessly and I am looking to run a network cable directly between them. The Xbox is in the room directly above the media center and I want to go through the interior wall. I am not familiar with dropping cable and before I rip open the walls or anything I wanted to know if its likely the wall is hollow all the way down or will there be a beam going through wall on. If there is a beam do I just cut the drywall open and drill a hole through the beam into the wall space below? Then I can cut a hole in the drywall at the bottom and pull the cable through ? I am a little confused and don’t really want to rip my house apart for no reason. The xbox 360 is in a closet in the bedroom above the stairwell and the media center is in the closet beneath the stairs if that helps.

CAT6 Ethernet 50′– stranded or solid?

I’ve done some research, and my need is to get about 50′ of cable to go from the router from the front of a condo to the back office, since Wifi is not an option for my work and there is no ethernet port in that room. It needs to twist around some corners and will be tucked underneath the carpet and shielded. Solid would be better for the long run, but with all the turns required, stranded would seem better. Which is the better option here?

Will a Dynex 50′ CAT6 Network Cable work for an Xbox live ethernet cord?

I will be getting an Xbox soon and I don’t feel like spending $100 for a wireless adaptor for live so I was wondering if this cord will do? Here is the URL for the future shop page!

Need help with Cat6 wiring with RJ45 connectors?

I’m trying to connect my bsnl UT300R2U adsl modem with my laptop in another room (distance approx 15m) through ethernet port (USB port is already being used by the desktop).I had already connected to internet successfully though a readymade short 1.5m ethernet cable which came with my modem.

So I went ahead and brought 15m Cat6 cable, two RJ45 connectors & a crimp tool. I followed TIA 568-B wiring standard for patch i.e straighthrough cable since i’m connecting pc with modem. But i’m not able to connect to internet with the cable i’d fixed. I didnt buy a network tester due to budget constraints.
pls let me know if i’d done anything wrong thnx
yes it does support both simultaneously … i’ve checked it.

ethernet cable cat6 from wireless router to PC?

I have 2 computers, the family one is hooked up to the cable modem and wireless router directly, and I have my own computer in my room. I am looking for a ethernet cable, cat6, 75ft. I had found this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000V1O1JE/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1P53BJQ00A8BJB6DRMBE&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846
but I had read a review that someone said this does not work if its plugged into a modem going straight to my PC. Does anyone know about this? Will it work or not. I’d plug it into my wireless router and have it go to my PC into the ethernet RJ45 port obviously. Thank you for help
I use linksys wireless router as well

rg6, cat6, romex wiring question?

So I’m trying to wire an old house for my new HTPC. I only have two holes that I can run cables through. One is empty and one has romex. I need to add cat6 and rg6. That means at least two cables must run parallel. I know this is never ideal, but I’d like to know which of the following is the lesser evil:

1. Romex + RG6
2. Romex + Cat6
3. RG6 + Cat6

Fastcat5e vs. cat6 cable?

I saw a 25′ Belkin Fastcat5e cable and a 50′ Link Depot cat6 cable. I was wondering whether it would be faster if I bought 2 fastcat5e’s and a connector, or a cat6 cable. The cat6 cable is cheaper by like 3 or 4 dollars.
