Best answer award will go to the person who gives me an online link to buy a multicolored patch cable. (Not a single color per cable, but multiple colors in one cable – like stripes, or different colored connectors, etc…)

I have two computers, one in the basement and one on the second floor. I did all the networking myself and the modem is located in the basement. I get great speeds on the computer in the basement but the speeds on the upstairs computer are not nearly as good as the downstairs one. I was just wondering if this could be caused by length of cable going upstairs or the environment of the cable or something. If anyone has any ideas, please help!?!

I just want to know like is a cat 5 for TV and cat 6 for PC? and will the cables inside be different? If I use cat 5 will I lag more then if i use cat 6?

Ok so…. i have a 1.5mbps internet connection. It is on a network between 2 computers using cat5 cables. and now i need to connect a 3rd computer to the network. So what would you recommend? Either a cat5, cat5e or cat6 cable.. And if it helps i have a netgear DG834G v3. and yes i do have a wireless adapter but i dont want to use wireless internet because its a desktop computer and also it faulty. (being sent to netgear soon) so yer anyway…

now cat 6 performance is same as fiber cables which is cheaper, why do we still need to use fiber optic cables?
i know all the cat cables are 100meter range and fiber a range at 1-2 kilometers

does the transfer speed of the cable make a difference when playing online

My house is already wired for ethernet. But the cable is standard Cat5 (not Cat5e). From everyone I have already asked and all the articles I’ve read, no one will give me a definite answer. Well, unless they are selling the stuff. Then it is a definite “you have to upgrade everything.” The others who say it will work either won’t support their claim and just say it always works or they say it will work for short distance (3 meters).
If anyone can tell me that they have used standard Cat5 for a Gigabit network, over distance (150ft), I would really appreciate it.
Or if you could point me to a website or posting which explains clearly the difference and how it does or doesn’t work, it could save me alot of unneeded work, or justify the upgrade.

I have a network that is all Cat5 wiring can I use a CAT5e patch cable in this mix or do I have to staty with CAT5 patch cables?

The CAT5 is cheaper but is there a difference between it and the CAT6 i should be concerned about?
