I am using my library’s computer to post this message.
My browser’s do not work.
I also get a message from Foxfire browser that the connection has been interrupted.
I have scanned for adware and viruses and seem to be clean.
One thing is that on my home computer I can bring up Yahoo but when I try to log on to my account it returns with a blank screen.
I can browse some websites but when the web page has to post some information from the screen it seems that it never gets back to the web hosting site and the server times out.

I have also tried HijackThis and the entries there do not seem strange.
Is it something to do with Winsock?
I have ordered a DSL modem from the phone company but would like to make sure my computer O/S is good before I install it.
Any suggestions?

I tried about 6 different online games, and right now I just want Maple Story to work (dont crticize please -.-)

And whenever I try to connect to games it say, “Cant connect to patch server” or “Cant connect to server”

I tried messing and resseting my router, and updated my computer (XP SP2) and tried winsock and such

My Wii and Playstation Portable also cannot connect to the interent, and on another PC, the game can start the game but I have to reboot cuz the screen keeps going on and off…

What solutions are there? I have no system restore point, and no boot disk.

I’ve tried setting up yahoo and Apple Mail via the mac mail button but I can’t seem to setup any email on my iphone no matter what I do. When I setup the mac mail(mobileme) I get the error that username or password is not correct.

-I’ve checked pings for a DNS issue, and I usually get 4 replies.

-I’ve reset my Internet Explorer Advanced Settings.

-I’ve checked the Internet protocols and they are set to be automatic.

-I’ve tried deleting winsock and winsock2.

-I’m NOT working offline.

-Internet Explorer does not work in Safe Mode, but I am still connected to the internet.

So what’s going on? I can’t think of anything else.
It might be malware? I’m not sure.

For whatever reason my Vista labtop is getting this message everytime I try to connect to the internet. And for whatever reason only that computer and no other computer in the house (All others are XP and are wireless) are connected. I tried the winsock reset thing and that didn’t work either. I’m still getting this connected with limited activity/local access with cannot communicate with primary DNS server. I’ve had it connected for sometime but it is all of the sudden not working. I heard that if you leave it on sleep for so long it will give you those kind of messages which I think I accidentally did. Now the internet isn’t working on it and I’ve tried everything. Can’t get that disable TCP message either when I try to repair. I’ve disabled it, repaired it, erased the network settings re-enter it, nothing it still gives me the same message. I have no idea what’s wrong. Please help.

Using ZXDSL831 modem directly, I could establish connection with TM Net Streamyx. When I connect through Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router, I could not get connected to internet and a fault message “PPPoE Authentication Failed” pop up. I used the same Username and Password as provided by TM Net and I set up the router as per Installation CD and manual. There seems to be a problem between the two hardwares (ZTE modem and Linksys router). Is this a common problem with modem provided by TM Net? Should I buy another modem and if so, what model/brand would be compatible with Linksys WRT54G. Thanks.

ok so i recently got a virus on my laptop after removing it when i go to open the internet it says internet explorer cannot display the web pagee
however i can connected to the internet
ive done the netsh winsock reset and the netsh winsock reset catalog and those haven’t worked i also renewed the IP address and i deleted all that stuff in the internet browser ive also done the winsock repair tool that u download online that didn’t work so im running out of ideas =( i would just reinstall the operating system but my mom lost the disc so if anyone can help me that would be awesome also dunno if it matters but im running on windows XP pro x64 =)
wow thanks for the fast replys i just did the reset on internet options however it didnt work and the PC is an Alienware M9700 however i came with another operating system that i no longer have so as far as reinstalling anything i cant =(

I have just installed Yahoo IM on a new PC. I can sign in when I connect to the Internet from home (no firewalled router – PPPoE DSL connection), but when I connect from my office network, I cannot sign in.

My office PC has the same version of IM (8.1), and is conected on the same network segment, and I have no problem signing in. I have turned off my firewall on the new PC, but the problem persists.

How can I diagnose and fix this problem? It appears that the corporate network environment is somehow affecting my connectivity, but since IM works on my office PC, I can assume that it is not being blocked.

John L, thanks. I wondered about that too, but other PCs on our network are not affected. This is only affecting newly-installed PCs.

Actually my job is the key reason why I want to get this IM working. It is the tool that we use within our team to keep in contact amongst ourselves, and with the vendor that supplies the software that we support.

Under most circumstances I would agree, but I have a valid business reason to get this working.

As for the port, see my previous comment.
I can access Yahoo IM via meebo.com. Thanks for the suggestion. However this is a stopgap solution at best. I am working with the company’s network and PC people to solve this problem. They are baffled too. At their recommendation, I have installed WireShark, a network sniffer, to trace what is happening on the network when the signon fails.

If an internet user cannot surf by IP address or by URL name, and cannot ping by URL name, but can ping by IP address, this could be a symptom of:
A damaged Winsock file
A damaged windows registry
No connection to the internet was detected

For 2 weeks now, I have not been able to access Yahoo Email (from the internet or Outlook). I have never had problems ever before. I have a router (with firewall) + ZoneAlarm configured, but never had any issues before, until now. I have tried to to reset TCP/IP i.e. “netsh winsock reset catalog” and “netsh int ip reset reset.log” but no luck. I also tried accessing email from my Laptop – still did not work. Its either an issue with my router or any issue with Yahoo Email, I suspect the latter. When I try and get the email via Outlook, I get the following error: Task ‘pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk – Receiving’ reported error (0x8004210E): ‘Your mailbox is temporarily unavauilable because another e-mail message is being delivere to it or another mail application is accessing it. The server responded: -ERR maildrop busy.’
When I test the settings in Outlook, Outlook is able to establish a network connection, find the SMTP/POP3 mail servers, but cannot log onto the incoming mail server. HELP!
I also just tried accessing my Yahoo email from my Mobile Phone and that usually works, but this time it did not and displays username and password, which would indicate that either my username or password is failing. Who can I contact to rectify this?
I’d just like to state again that this is most probably nothing to do with my PC or router as I also cannot access Yahoo Email from my mobile phone. There is something fundamentally wrong with logging onto the incoming email server. All I can think of is that my user-id or password have not been recognised, but its strange as I can log into Yahoo and IM OK with these same details, but not Yahoo email. Will give up soon and change to gmail or something else – anyone know what the Yahoo support line number is?

can someone help me i have a pppoe connection that i have entered into the router and i can connect to the lan on 2 of my comps but not the one. What really confuses me is that i can connect to the internet on the comp that cannot connect to the lan when i create and connection with my pppoe account. anyone know what is wrong?

I just did a clean reinstall of Windows XP SP2. My router is DHCP, its setup correctly, in fact i was browsing the internet just fine but it was not allowing me to share files or folders with the network. So i reinstalled the network card drivers, that fixed that issue but now it wont set an ip address, default gateway or subnet.

If i click the repair button it gives me the message:
“Failed to query TCP/IP Settings of the connection. Cannot proceed.”

DHCP Server is turned on in services, as is Server. both set to Auto. I just reinstalled hoping it would fix the issue, i also tried to do a repair of my winsock thinking that could be the issue, but its really odd, i have never had an issue like this before.
Yes the ethernet cable is plugged in. I am not getting any kind of Asigned IP at all.
I forgot to mention whenever i try to use ipconfig /release. /renew or anything i get the same result, no details only the message:

“Windows IP Configuration”

ERROR IN WINSOCK DRIVER PAGE, MEMORY ACCESS{OX00008FAI)?

Only showing up with 1394 connection – no local area connection (not sure if there was one before, but I would think so) Problem just occurred today, worked fine saturday (last time used).

Tried system restore to an earlier date – didn’t work

Tried netsh winsock reset (fix from different website)
didn’t work

I cannot ping the gateway, but I am able to ping my DHCP, DNS which is not on my local network. So technically I used the gateway to get to the DHCP and DNS. What’s is wrong with my connection? I think I am using a Cisco 3550 switch.

I have tried deleting winsock and the winsock fix tools that I could find….seems that I have some problem that I cannot figure out I need major help I can get into windows but not online when I try to do the fix connection thing it keeps saying that it cant renew ip address I have tried doing this with the ipconfig release and renew and that does nothing tried the installing of the tcp/ip thing with the c:\windows\inf thing that does not work either is there something that I am doing wrong or something else I can do cause if this keeps up then the only thing I can think of is to bring the computer to the rent a geeks place and they want 179 to save files and 129 not to I don’t care to save files on the pc there is nothing important on there that I need I am running windows xp proffessional mar programs I got this comnputer for free from our county thru the pc’s for people program so as you have figured I really don’t have alot of money to spend for repairing also we use the magic jack for phone and when the internet is not connected the phone does not work so I have been haveing to switch back and forth from the old pc which is so slow the magic jack will not work in it just am able to browse around slowly to try to resove my problems I am able to download stuff to one of those usb sticks and put on the other pc that is what I have been doing please help thank you!
ok when I tried the netsh winsock reset it says unable to reset winsock catalog the system cannot find the file specified then when I do the dump one a lot of stuff comes up I resset and still no connection the winsock version I think is there is 2 of them the first is file….c:\windows\system32\winsock.dll size…..2.80 kb (2864bytes) version…..3.10 the second is file….c:\windows\system32\wsock21.dll size…22.00kb (22528bytes) version…. 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp. 080413-0852) the windows version I think is says version 5.1.2600 the sevice pack which I found in my add/remove programs not sure where to find some of this stuff but what I saw was microsoft .net framework 3.0 service pack 2…..also the same for the first but 2.0 service pack 2 and again but 3.5 SP1 and then 1.1 not sure if you get my interpritation let me know thanks
