Complete Wireless Office… NO CAT5 cabling???

Hello, I am an IT Manager and my company is moving to a brand new building this year. They are very interested in going wireless. I was thinking, should I even think about CAT5 cabling for a backbone or failover? Do we even need CAT5 cabling anymore? Wireless seems pretty secure if you set it up right and its reliable. I wanted to know if anyone has ever heard of any companies going 100% wireless with no wired infrastructure (besides server room).

Thank You,
Lou
Do you think it is ok to not even wire the new office with CAT5 cabling? Or should it be there JUST IN CASE?

Thank you!

Where can I find cat5e cabling that is not the standard 9 or 10 colors?

I’ve been tasked with finding some ‘different’ looking cat5e cabling. I work at a creative agency, and the powers-that-be have determined that the standard color cabling for the network is not acceptable for station drops. So, I’m trying to find something that is different than the norm, whether it is something striped, patterned, wrapped in blinking light (we have PoE switches, if that helps) to make it look like what people think fiber cable looks like…. I’m sure you get the point.

Thanks in advance for your help on a silly quest.

Yes, I mean the outer sheath. Not the actual wiring inside the cable. I’d like to avoid spray painting the cables – that’s way too much effort for me.
And “think fiber looks like” means flashing lights running back and forth through the cable. Basically a combination of christmas lights and a patch cable. :)

Does CAT5 cabling support 1000mbps network speeds or do I need to upgrade to 5e or 6?

what is the best cabling company for providing cat5e and 6 per customer sales.?

Residential Structured Cabling Question?

My house is in the midst of extensive kitchen and bathroom remodeling and now has about 50% of all the plasterboard removed. Why don’t US remodeling workers cover their dirty shoes when walking on my expensive carpeting? A cultural thing?

So while crying about my carpets, I say to myself, “self, what a great time to put in structured cabling!”

My house is about 2000 sq/ft with an half basement/garage and upstairs living area with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths.

I’m thinking to run to absolutely every room: 1 cat6, 1 dual RG6, and 1 3e telephone cable.

Yes, I know that I could buy all this in one cable, but don’t want to do it this way. Are there any other cables I should be running along with the aforementioned, so that my house can some day be the “smart house of the future”?

I’m thinking to put the connector box downstairs in the basement somewhere because it would be convenient to access, and no room upstairs where it could be elegantly installed. Good idea? Anything else?
It surprises me that Americans almost always wear their outdoor shoes into the house. Then they let their infants crawl all over the floor, oblivious to the presence of germs and viruses.

I asked the workers nicely not to wear their outdoor shoes on my clean carpeting but was ignored.
How about sound/stereo cables?
Should I run those seperately?

Internet cabling regulations?

Hey, so I’m doing some cabling of Cat6 cable through the walls at my work and I was told the regulation height for them is 18 inches from the ground, and yet all the power outlets are 14 inches from the ground. Does anyone know what the regulatory height is in the state of Oregon for the cabling of Cat6? Thanks in advance.

I am using 10 systems in my network with cat5 cabling and 8 port swith. I want to use fibre optic how to doit

Where or How can I find some data/voice cabling work w/o a license in California or surrounding states?

I have 4 year experience in the field running CAT5, CAT6, 25 pair/66 blocks, installing routers, switches, hardware, software, telecom, VOIP, RJ45, etc… I’m looking for some small to medium jobs.

Pls help… Thanx!

why I only get 10MB in cat5 cabling?

Hi, I have a router connected to the internet, but one of the computer is 80 feets away from the router and it can not get 100MBps. I have force the computer to use 10MBps. Could someone please let me know what will impact the speed of cat5 cabling?

can cat5 and cat5e cabling be spliced together?

I originally ran cat5 cable for phone and only using 1 pair. This run was from the phone box on the side of the house. I then ran a cat5e cable from the phone box to my tv room. I now want to use 2 of the pairs from each run and splice them together to run a network RJ45 connection. Preferably 100Mb. Is this possible? I’ve spliced the wires, but am not getting the proper connections. I have an RJ45 connector at each end. I’m using T-568B at the connectors and a straight through cable on each end.
More: I have a switch/router that supports a few computers and allows internet access. I purchased modular jacks and punched down 4 wires (or, wh/or, grn, wh/grn) in the T-568B config. Read a few websites that told me that 4 wires were enough for 100baseTX.

I was wondering, if you have cat 5(e) cabling through the walls and you run cat6, do get faster speeds?

I’m running cat6 cabling in a few parts of a workplace and the rest is still cat 5e. Was wondering if the speeds will vary whether you change out the local patch cables for cat6 patch cables or are you clocked at the cat5e cabling?

How difficult is to run cat5 cabling in several rooms in pre-existing home?

Looking for advice on how to setup / install cat5 wall jacks in my pre-existing home for a wired home network. My plan is to have my router hooked into a switch w/ 6 ports going to a wall jack. That wall jack will have cat5 cabling going to different rooms in the house through the attic.

Has anyone done this before? How do I run cable from the ceiling through the wall down to the wall plate? Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

We are about to put in new cabling in our office. Should we consider CAT6, or use CAT5E?

We’re planning on laying it ourselves, and then utilise a “professional” to clamp/connect at each end. What actual additional benefits does the CAT6 provide over CAT5E? What tips does anyone have for undertaking such a project (excluding cable companies who, of course, will strongly recommend we don’t do it ourselves!).
Thanks!
