ok im not good with networking so ill tell you what i have. iv got a modem connected to a router my speed is 10mb so shall i get cat5 cat5e or cat6 ?
will i notice any diffrence if a had a cat6 then if i had a cat5

I wired one of my room using a CAT6 network patch cable.

The computer was previously connected to a wireless network through the same high speed cable via a router.

For some reason the wired system really slowed my internet speed.

How can this be, as I’m using the same high speed cable system.

Could it be that I’m using the wrong kind of cable?

Hi, i was looking to buy a Belkin N+ router. The description says it supports gigabit so 1000mbs. At bestbuy.com it says comes with a RJ45 cable. I was wondering if that could support a 1000mbs connection. When i type it in it says Cat5/5e, well which one is it, cause i know cat5e supports gigabit but cat5 doesnt, so do i need to buy a cat5e or cat6 cable or does the RJ45 work?

I have a Fast Ethernet connection(10/100mbps) on my desktop, i know that this rating shows the max and that it will probably never reach that limit. Well i was wondering how to increas the flow..would i need a bandwidth increase from my isp or would buying a Cat5e, or Cat6 cable help me out

I’ve run a long cat5 ethernet cable about 130 feet and while I see a link light, the computer can’t sustain a connection to the router over the cable long enough to get an IP address. I’ve run about 150 feet of cable to cover the 130 feet (a lot of excess on both ends), so I’m considering just trimming the excess to start with. However, I’m curious what the limitations of cat5 are. I read somewhere 100 feet. True? What are the length limitations of cat6? Should I just start over with cat6 wire instead? Other wired options?

I am building a cabin near my house…approximately 500 ft from my house with my orignal DSL connection. I have other things running underground so i thought about internet. Are there special long distance cables? I have a linksys router, is it powerful enough to push the current? Ive heard of cat5 and cat6…no idea what they are. Any such thing as a “booster”? Please help : )
Also….Will it last underground without any piping? It will be about 18 inches under the ground which is well below frost line here…

I need a patch cable for a connection from my modem to my xbox(i know, geeky) but i was wondering what cable i should get. Should I get the standard Cat5 Cable or should i go up to the Cat6 or Cat6a? And i know they r coming out with a Cat7 but i don’t know if it would be good for that type of connection. but if it is then i might just get that because i want a really fast connection.

Ok first i connect a cat6 internet cable to the d ling internet router and that routers already connected to the computer then i finilly connedct the other end of the internet cord to my xbox. is that right if not plz respond!!!!
