Well i have connected the Cat5 cable into the Ethernet ports on both the laptop and desktop pc’s, it show that there connected but it says on the vista laptop identified network how do i get full access of each computer without a router and can you make it a step by step responce

What is the diffence between Broadband Internet, Wireless internet and dial up internet. And are Cable and DSL internet both in the Broadband category.

Wht i have got is an ADSL connection with USB ADSL modem with no ethernet port , a LAN card installed as well on my desktop Machine and a crosswire ethernet cable, i have tried the method of assingnig IP’s ( 192.168.0.1 n 192.168.0.2 method ) but sometime my laptop get connected to interenet and some time it dont no matter how many times i try to diagnose it :S !!! I have 2 phones running on the same line and the ADSL which is connected to one of the phones and the filter, I’m still getting a buzzing noise even when I have disconnected the other phone without one. Why is it stil doing this even though I don’t have the other phone connected? Woud it be better if I got another filter and connected the other phone as well?

I’m very new to the home ownership thing and am looking forward to hiding ugly cables running around my place. My current plan is to have the cable modem and router in the living room next to the TV. Most of my electronics that require a wired connection are directly connected to the TV. There is however my desktop which will be in the office that will also be wired. I planned on running a CAT6 cable from the router to the desktop in the office through the walls. What exactly do I need for this? Do I need a specific type of outlet for each room and 3 cables? yes, I know i could use wireless. I didn’t put that in my question as an option because I want it directly connected! Wireless is and has never been as secure as a physical wired connection as evidenced by the fact that WEP and WPA1 have both been hacked already. It’s only a matter of time before WPA2 is as well.

If I have a wireless modem, is there any need for a router? And can anyone suggest the name of a good wireless modem??
