How do I get Vista to automatically use the Ethernet instead of wireless when I plug my laptop into my router?
Anyone have this problem where your wireless is being used even when you plug into the router? I would like to figure out how to set up my laptop to automatically use the Ethernet when plugged into the router and to switch back to wireless when unplugged from the router.
Thanks in advance!
There isn’t a switch on the laptop to turn the wireless on/off or I would do that.

My DHCP lease doesn’t automatically renew. Why?
I have internet service, but (of course!) I can’t get past the “covering our butt” answers from my ISP to get a “real” answer.
When my DHCP lease expires, it does not automatically renew all the time. Some times it will, some times it won’t, and I get the famous “I can’t find the internet” page in my browser.
When this happens, I have to manually make my router release/renew its IP.
Why does this happen, and what can I do to make my IP renew automatically?
How can I automatically log my internet facing ip address every day?
I need to keep track of my real external ip address as the ISP changes it every day or two. (Not the internal NATed DHCP address) If I go to any of those “What’s my ip address?” websites that tell me the ip address which the outside world sees me sourcing from it changes every day or two. I need a script or tool I can install on my laptop that will keep a log listings of my real ip addresses as it changes.
How can I automatically assign an IP address when an XP machine boots without a DNCP server?
I have a situation where I need to have 50+ Windows XP machines boot on a network that does not have a DHCP server. Because these virtual machines revert back to their “golden” state each time they boot, I can’t use a static IP. Is there a way or maybe even a VB script that can pick an IP address from a list and assign it to an adapter when the machine boots?
Why will Firefox 2.0 not automatically configure the DHCP settings?
Internet Explorer 6.0 works on the same machine.
I have DSL at home running off of a four port switch. The other computers on the switch work correctly with Explorer and with Firefox.
When I go to command (XP PRO) and IPCONFIG / all it reads correctly for DHCP service from the switch.
Please point me to an answer. I do not have the time to troubleshoot and dig on this one for a couple of hours.
Why does my WAN not come up automatically in Windows XP?
I have a Netgear Router WRG614. All is filled out properly with password and login info for my PPPoE connection with Verizon. It is set up as a router, and is a DHCP server.
When I turn off my PC, and it comes back up, only the LAN is up. The WAN is not. IPConfig shows that. Every time I need to click my network icon to manually connect to the ISP. Should Windows do the logon automatically at startup? How do I get the router to do that? I have gone over the router’s instructions over and over. It is set to connect automatically but it doesn’t connect my PC.
Would appreciate any tip.
Thanks, D, but this is NOT a wireless connection. It’s a regular ethernet connection.
How can I be automatically connected to net at Startup?
I have BSNL Home 250 Plan Broadband with 256Kbps. There are two connections in “Network Connections”, one is WanMiniPort (PPPoe) connection and another Local Area Connection. When my system starts up, it automatically notifies that “Local Area Connection is now connected at 10.0 Mbps”, but I cannot surf net until I connect the WanMiniPort (PPPoe) connection. Is there any dialer, app, etc which can connect the another connection automatically at startup.
Can anybody tell me how to setup a server on a network connection when ip is automatically set up by DHCP?
Peace. My ISP uses DHCP to assign IPs to their customers and I have a different IP everytime I connect to the Internet. I have the program Abyss Web Server which allows you to make a server out of you computer but if I give my IP to somebody at a time to check my computer’s web site, that IP won’t work if I disconnect and reconnect again. I need help if available. I want to know if I can use a fixed IP or a proxy (and how to do that) so that everytime I connect to the Internet I have the same IP address. Thanks for reading.

How can prevent Windows services from automatically becoming disabled?
I’m using XP and this problem just started suddenly without me even installing anything new or something that may have affected it. If I manually change most of the services to auto or manual they start working for that session, but when I restart, or shutdown and startup the computer later, most of them are back to being disabled. Windows audio, telephony, remote acccess connection manager, and other important services encounter this problem. I’ve tried different things to fix the problem such as resetting my firewall to unblock any possible services, enabled all services on auto, checked for spyware/viruses, ran registry mechanic to fix registry issues, and disabled startup items. And I don’t know if it’s related, but now my mousepad left button stop working too.
