I have broadband with SKY, i think the contract is up to 10Mb/s or somethin but i did a speed test and got 0.7Mb/s

I have been getting the error “Local area Connection: A network cable is unplugged” for a long time, and i noticed there is no Ethernet Cable plugged into my modem (An Intel(R) 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem) so i went out and bought a Dynex Cat6 Premium Network cable for Ethernet. Well i plugged one end in to the modem and the other into the back of my computer. The Ethernet light on my modem is still off, and it still gives me the “Network Cable Is Unplugged” error
is it just the cable or what?
any help is appreciated.
I must have the NIC Card since i dont know what else the Ethernet Cable would plug in to, but i dont know what the card looks like or what category it would be under in Device Manager

I recently subscribed to DSL with a speed of 512Mbps. But when I plug my CAT5 cable to my computer it shows “Local Area Connection connected 100Mbps”. Is there a way to check if I’m really getting the correct bandwidth w/c is 512Mbps?

However, I can’t get connected to the internet on that computer. I can print through our home LAN with the printer we have tied into the network. I’ve tried everything I know but when I click on IE it says IE cannot display the webpage. When I go to “diagnose the connection problem” it says windows has detected a problem with the winsock provider catalog and asks if I want to reset the catalog to default configuration. I click yes and restart but go through the same loop over and over.

We are moving into North Atlanta area and I was wondering what Internet/Cable I should go with. I’ve researched and Comcasts 8mbps service is the fastest I’ve found. The price also goes down about $20 if you subscribe to their cable, which I’m also questioning. I really want HD/DVR, but is their service worth the price? In total, it would be around $120-$150 a month depending on package, etc. The most important thing to me is the fastest internet possible for a decent price, but I also would like an HD/DVR without to hefty a price tag. Any suggestions?

I am trying to release my IP address in command prompt with ipconfig/release but it wont let me it keeps saying no operation can be performed while its media is disconnected. From what i have been told because of the Tunnel Adapters being disconnected.

I live here in Arcadia and my supposedly 3 mega bit internet only uploads at .48 megabits and downloads at 1.4 megabits. This is not even the peak. We pay 29.99 per month, is there anything faster for a similar price?
