After running a avast scan on my pc there were system file that came up, does this mean these files are corrup?

I am trying to figure out what these mean wsock32dll. c:/windows sysyem 32, winsock.dll. c:/windows sysyem 32, and kernel32dll. c:/windows sysyem 32, after running my antivirus scan these came up, what do they mean, and is it harming my computer, Thanks Jen
Hi it didnt recommend to do anything, it would be my choice, but each time a scan is run the will still come up, no matter if they are deleted at that time
answer number 1, I dont really understand what you mean

Internet and Firewall isn’t working after MalPak virus?

Our internet is really screwed up right now. Today, I got the same exact adware virus that I have been getting for the past couple months. It’s the type that tries to pass off as a fake antivirus scanner, but it is actually infecting your computer (it’s called MalPak or something like that).
We have Webroot, and whenever this virus shows up out of the blue, these are the steps I take that have ALWAYS worked:

1.) Run a full scan the computer
2.) quarantine and delete the virus
3.) restart the computer
4.) turn on Windows firewall (because the virus always turns it off somehow)
5.) On internet explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> uncheck the box that says “use a proxy server”

I take those steps, and everything always works just fine again.

But today, the virus came back, and this time in the middle of the scan, the computer shut itself down.
I then decided to restart the computer in Safe Mode, so I could get rid of the virus. It took much longer to scan than usual, but it quarantined the virus.

But after that, I couldn’t get the Windows firewall OR the internet to work again! Whenever I try to enable the firewall, it tells me “Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service?”

I then click Yes, but this is what happens:

“Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service.”

At this point I decided to try scanning with Malwarebytes, and it apparently picked up the last traces of that virus. I restarted the computer again.

Then, I tried to connect to the firewall again by going to the Control Panel, but it just gives me the same message.

As for the Internet (and as you can see, my WiFi is still working just fine), I tried diagnosing the connection problems, and this is the message I got:

“Windows has detected a problem with the Winsock provider catalog on this computer. This catalog allows programs to communicate with this computer across the network. Would you like Windows to reset the catalog to the default configuration?”

And afterwards, I selected ‘Yes’, and restarted the computer. But neither the firewall nor the internet are connecting at all.

Another thing I noticed: It can’t detect my IP address at all. When I go to Control Panel -> Network Connections -> More Information -> Details, this is what it shows me:

Physical address: 00-13-20-18-1B-83
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway field is blank
DNS server: 192.168.1.254
WINS Server field is blank

It won’t let me repair the connection either. It tells me:
“windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
Renewing your IP address”

I’ve even tried unplugging our router, waiting a few seconds, then plugging it back in to see if it can acquire the IP address. But nothing.

Any ideas as to what’s going on?? And how can we fix it?
Uhh… allow me to reiterate.
I. Can’t. Get. Online. With. My. Computer.

Eh, it won’t matter anyway. I just got confirmation yesterday by calling a bunch of tech people that my computer is officially f*cked up. I’ve backed up everything and I’m ready to use the installation CD to reformat my hard drive. But, now I have a new problem. I can’t even boot up from the CD, because a blue screen comes up telling me to restart the computer in safe mode, but the CD won’t even run in safe mode! :(

plz help me out:i hav a dsl connection which is DHCP enabled. after some time does my ip address expire?

My internet stopped working after virus removal?

yesterday, i got a nasty “antivirus soft” virus. luckily, i managed to permanently remove it using windows defender and Malwarebytes anti malware. Unfortunately, my computer will no longer access the internet, it always shows up as an unidentified network. Wired and wireless, the have they same result

I have tried multiple solutions online such as lan options, winsock fix, and different command prompt entries, but none seemed to fix it. Network diagnostics says it cant resolve it either. is there a way i can fix this easily?

I have vista x64

PC saying network cable unplugged after system restore?

I’ll try to explain my problem as best as I can.

I used system restore on my computer to fix a computer problem unrelated to the internet matter. Anyways after the system restore, the network icon on my pc said network cable unplugged. The computer’s operating system is Vista Home

I have tried a few things to fix it like reinstalling the drivers for my network card, and checking to see if the configurations are right. I’ve also tried another system restore to fix it, but to no avail.

I read online to try running the command prompt as administrator and typing in
Netsh winsock reset
Netsh int ipv4 reset
Netsh int Ipv6 reset

However, the last two commands keep saying access denied.

I am sure the modem is not broken because I am using the same modem on the laptop I am typing from. The modem is a westell 6100 if that helps, and the data light wont come on for my other pc, but will for this one. I have also tried power cycling.

Internet connection lost after removing ‘Internet Security 2010′.?

Hi, today I randomly got infected by the internet security 2010 virus.
Thanks to all the guidelines I was able to remove this completely. I also fixed a problem with the task manager disabled after the removal. My laptop is originally vista but I changed it to xp.

Okay, here’s my problem.
After removing IS2010, internet connection is lost. The connection seems to be restricted. (the yellow exclamation sign) I tried the winsock xp but its not working for me.

Can anyone help?

After Virus, desktop can’t connect to internet but laptop can?

I need some serious computer help. I had a nasty virus/worm/something infect my computer because I forgot to update my anti-virus program. I updated my software and now the virus/worm/whatever is gone. It was the virus that keeps telling you that you have a virus and to download software from a site that it redirects you to, plus it will never let you on to the internet site you want to. Instead, it constantly redirects you. (I don’t know if it’s important what kind of virus/worm it was but I figured it couldn’t hurt to tell you.)

So the virus was gone and everything was peachy-keen, or so I thought. When I tried to go online using IE this message pops up: IE cannot display the web pagee. Most Likely causes- you are not connected to the internet, etc… I tried to refresh just in case it was a glitch but that did not help. I thought maybe it was my firewall, but turns out my firewall was not even turned on so that was out too. I checked my internet connections and it said I was connected. Since it was connected, I wanted to see if I could use my laptop. Lo and behold my laptop works fine. That is how I am typing this right now.

My laptop is working on a wireless network. I thought perhaps I need to reset my cable internet, router and computer connections. So one by one I shut them down and powered them back up. Still no progress. I decided to use Winsockfix XP and burned it onto a disc from my laptop and inserted it into my desktop. After it said it fixed the problem I restarted the computer to find that nothing changed. I clicked on Run in my computer and typed “netsh winsock reset” this still did nothing. I did some other simpler things but still no change.

I am about to throw my computer out the window because I can’t take it anymore. Please someone help me with this problem
As stated above, there is no problem with the internet connection, so there would be no reason to call my service provider. There are also no add-ons that need to be deleted.
Links to download something do not help me. Please read the entire entry. I can not get to ANY web page on my desktop, so telling me to go to a website on my broken desktop does not help at all. I appreciate the effort, but please read my question in it’s entirety.

Windows XP firewall turns itself off exactly one hour after I log on…?

Constant on going problem.
Windows firewall turns itself off exactly one hour after I log on, and keeps repeating every hour.
For example, I log on at 8am, then the firewall flashes disabled at 9am, then will flash again at 10am and so on.
Is this spyware activity?
A possible keylogger?

Wha can I t to do to stop/remove this?

This past weekend, I did a complete recovery in pc and wiped it clean.
It was fine and suddenly the firewall flashed up again.

Malwarebytes I’ve used once in the past and it removed a trojan but my winsock was damaged in the process.

All helped much appreciated.
Thank you so much.

Explorer crashes and No internet access. After using both Pfconfig and tcpoptimizer.?

I downloaded both Pfconfig and Tcpoptimizer today to speed the download of a torrent i’m downloading in bitcomet. Unfortunately after using tcpoptimizer, i rebooted my computer and logged in to find explorer.exe crashing every 15-30 seconds, and now i dont seem to have an Ip address or something like that, since i have no more internet access. I checked the network settings as best as i could, but that crashed with explorer as well before i could figure out much. The IP address and subnet were blank completely. I dont know what could be causing the instability in explorer to have it constantly crash and start up, crash and start up, but i cant do anything anymore. I tried a winsock fix, did nothing. Can anyone help me out?

a can’t recieve after a while!!!?

Hi
i have an ADSL connection with PPPOE LLC encapsulation(VPI = 0 & VCI=35) , when i run my connection and connect to the internet ,after a while my “recieve” stops! it means the connection indicator (two monitors in system tray) blinks just in sent part and i don’t have recieve blink!!!! my splitter placed correctly and i have no time limit for hanging up! the times of occuring this problem are not equal.it’s really annoying please help me.

Strange flooding and total system instability after… what’s going on?

So I’m sitting there, working on a program, or surfing the internet, or listening to some music, and all of a sudden, some letters turn into non-english characters (accent marks and such), some characters are missing, and entire texts on dialog boxes are even blank. I HAVE sifted through process explorer MANY times and extremely thorough when doing so. Nothing besides the application I’m in, default Windows processes, and my keyboard managing application (I have a Logitech G11). So I close out of every application I’m in. Seems fine. I try to open just simple Notepad and errors appear about DLL’s missing. I scour through my system32 folder and THEY ARE THERE. How are they missing? Trying to click anything results in either a missing DLL error or “Not enough memory to process request”…. But I look in process explorer (with some pieces missing due to character/letter craziness) and it says I have 1.5 GB of my 2 GB RAM free! (It’s DDR, not DDR2 or 3, by the way). So I try to shut down, and it freezes after the shutdown process is initialized! No mouse moving, not even my hardware responds! I’m pretty sure I don’t have a virus; no odd processes are running (not even hidden services under svchost), no odd DLL’s are in either WINDOWS or System32 folders, no odd program folders in Program Files, nothing that I didn’t install myself. I would run a virus scan, but that usually deletes some of the applications I have saved. (they’re false alarms because they just use winsock to query game server statuses… how those programs get recognized as viruses, I have no idea. I even checked their source… nothing strange.)

Can someone PLEASE help me to resolve this issue? It’s more than an annoyance now, I sometimes lose valuable work when I randomly “run out” of system resources!
HELP! :(
If it helps, the computer I’m having trouble with is my laptop (posting this from my desktop). It has a AMD Turion64 processor, but I run 32-bit Windows XP.
But I haven’t had this problem any time before.
@jabiilord:
I’ve checked EVERYTHING. Windows startup, MSCONFIG, Hidden startup… ANY possible place that you can find startup. (I used the program from SysInternals to check and NOTHING strange or non-microsoft was there.)
I’ll try safe mode with network connection & let you know how it turns out. :)
@J:
Thanks for the links, I’m scanning right now! :)
I’ll post the results here.
I had a few malware infections… now running MRT; found 2 also and isn’t finished.

Can’t connect to internet after reformat?

My desktop, computer 1, was having so many problems that I just had to reformat it. I got it done, and now I can’t connect to the internet or hear any sounds, as well as other problems I probably don’t know about yet. The thing is, my modem is working and I believe it’s set up correctly. It’s a wireless modem, so I used it for both my desktop and laptop. Right now it’s working wirelessly, but my computer detects no dialtone. I realized that it was trying to connect as a dial-up connection, so I opened up a broadband connection, but it says it can’t reach the WAN miniport (PPPOE)?

Why would a reformat (which somehow left me with all my old documents? I thought that wasn’t supposed to happen?) leave me missing essential drivers? How am I supposed to get them if I can’t get online? I checked on the modem and the computer says it’s working fine, yet it won’t connect me to the internet on that computer.

Should I call Dell or Verizon…?
I’m not stupid; I know what a reformat is. I had some problems where it wouldn’t delete one of my partitions and I had to have a new disk sent, and when I went back to the reformatting process, I think it may have skipped over that or something. I’m not really sure what ultimately happened, but it deleted all of my programs and settings and left my documents.

Some of you are really quite rude sometimes.

Sound no longer works after OS repair (not with recovery console)?

I had to reinstall my OS because my winsock got corrupt and when I repaired (from SP2 back down to SP1), my Realtek sound device no longer works. I have tried getting the latest updated driver, uninstalling and rebooting and letting windows reinstall the device but it always comes back up with “the device could not start Error Code 10″. I remember fixing this before but I forgot what I did.
I have already obtained the driver from the manufacturer.
