Please help…some of my internet programs either work slowly now or not at all.

My parents have a Netgear router and I just bought a new Netgear wireless card with a stronger signal. My parents have set their router so others can’t access internet through them. What are the steps I need to take, on their computer, to add my MAC address to their router. Which will allow me to have acces to their internet. Thanks!

i have a problem when i am online on my adsl network.there is a message that appears on my notification area over and over that says “there is an ip address conflict with another system on the network” i want to know is there any risk of entering another user in network to my pc.

I don’t have a fixed IP address. Does it change more or less often for DSL versus cable broadband?

It’s like this – I have a linux-based machine attached to my computer. My network does not detect it, the only way I could FTP from my Windows PC to my Linux is by looking up the IP address on the Linux and connecting via FlashFXP on my Windows. The Linux has a problem and I cannot look up the IP address from the LInux. I use a Router, so I know the IP is somewhere in the 192.168.0.100 – 192.168.0.700 range because that is how I set up the DHCP. So I want to use my WinPC to scan my network for this machine so I can fix it via FTP by deleting what I believe to be is a virus in the Linux Machine. I believe the Linux NIC is working because my router activity light goes on when the LInux Machine is turned on, and even blinks which indicates activity. So how can I scan my network for this machine? Windows will not work, I’ve tried. What other program scans for this type of thing?
I can ONLY access my linux computer via my networked Windows PC. Any Linux programs suggested would be a bad answer for this question.
OK, since everyone here is so smart, let me clarify. Something is wrong with the Linux Machine. The IP address a VIRTUAL domain. i.e., you can set up the ports without them actually being there. A file was loaded onto the Linux machine. The machine crashed, and doesn’t boot all the way. THEREFORE, since I can get in via FTP, I can go back and delete the file loaded- simple as that. It may have been an error in loading, or it could actually be a virus – Linux isn’t bulletproof you know. So maybe you should try reading the question before answering instead of assuming everyone is dumber than you. Typical Linux Geek . . .

I want to find out what port a laptop is connected to by IP address. Is there a command I can run to look this up? Toning out the lines is getting old.

I turned off the DHCP setting on my router and I want all my devices to use assigned static private IPs. How do I set this range (to prevent rogue devices using valid IPs) and ensure that only the right devices are using the right IPs? My router is a Linksys WRT54G v5.
MAC address filtering is broken because anyone with half a brain can easy spoof their MAC and your time filtering would be wasted.

I’ve never understood why Microsoft Windows takes so long to change an IP address. Changing it to/from DHCP or static (or even just changing a static address) almost always takes 10s or more.

Compared to my Macs (more or less instant), Linux (instant) or the Cisco routers I use at work, I simply don’t understand what Windows is doing for it to be so slow!

A Mac address showed up on my network, how do I block it? I already set a password and my DHCP server only allows 3 devices, which is my PS3, Laptop, and Desktop.
Mine is Motorola WiMax CPEi775, hope that helps. Also whenever this guy connects, he changes the password and I have to reset the device.

i installed comodo firewall and it changed the ip on my mums computer now it wont go on the internet

i have tried the following and it doesnt fix the issue

system restore and system restore in safe mode (system restore fails)
ipconfig in cmd release and renew
restore winsock
go in to registry settings and set the values to what they should be

NOTHING seems to work!

fyi i ahve uninstalled comodo and that it didnt change the ip back
