Question about CAT5 connection!?
So I have several CAT5 connectors in my house all wired and everything, they were in my house when I moved in, but my question is to use the CAT5 connection do you need to run a router to the cat 5 to make them work? Because I’ve tried to just connect my laptop directly to wall from the cat 5 and it doesn’t work!
NOTE: I have internet connection I have my modem plugged into the wall giving it power, the ethernet cable from desktop to modem, and the phone line from the wall to the modem. This is setup in a different room, so I want to know if I can directly plug my laptop into the wall in my bedroom that has a cat 5 or will i need a router in my room as well in order to use the cat 5 connection that comes outta the wall? Like will I need to connect the router to the cat 5? Or should the CAT5 just work on its own?
So what will I need to do to be able to use my CAT 5 connections?
I want to find a good book about Cisco Call Manager – the underlying technologies and configuration of?
Our company is about to upgrade to V7, from V4. We recently had a big problem and I realised how little I knew about it all. I need to learn about the architecture involved, how CM itself works regarding gateways, lists, hunts, all that shit, and the protocols that talk between to the voice routers.

Thinking about using some fiberoptic cable instead of cat5e…?
I want to replace my wireless with a hardline, buried over 450 feet to reach my cabin. Hopefully, this will speed me up, and save headaches from my wireless conking out regularly.
I know I need to throw a switch in halfway to boost the voltage, no probs there. But lately, reading about lightning strikes has gotten me thinking about using fiberoptic to remove the potential of getting fried.
Now I thought I’d run just a couple feet of it, and use cat5e for the rest. This would break the metal connection to my PC and save me a whole pile of money.
Anyone know how much the thingies you need on the ends of the fiber cost, and also the fiber itself. I don’t know what I need exactly.
Does adding this extra complication cause much signal loss? I hear you want to minimize connectors in an ethernet cable. I figure any decent line has to be a lot faster than wireless, in any case.
Thanks!
Ja, but I hear those are mostly useless, and interfere with the signal. If it did fail, my $2000 PC be toast.

I am really annoyed. What shall I do about this situation?
I have been working for a finance company for six months. My role is completely telephony based , but we were all told that after a while we would be trained in other areas of the buisness i.e. complaints or administrative roles where it wasn’t so telephony based. I was content, knowing that we would be trained up in this area but I was shocked to discover that the majority of my initial training team had been trained in administrative roles and I had not.
I can’t pretend to be very happy about this. I am very confused. Is my work lacking in some way? My Manager always insinuates i’m doing fine. My quality and availability is excellent according to her, so why should I be sidelined when it comes to other training opportunities? I have made it very clear from the outset that I wish to train in other areas and I have put my name down time and time again, but to no avail.
Am I over-reacting? If not, what do you think I should do? I am out of ideas.
