I cancelled my BT Broadband contract, but 3 days after doing so, I am still able to use the Internet.

Any idea why this is? I don’t know if it takes a few days to turn off my connection? I would like to have it shut off before my new contract with another provider starts.

I ran some cat5e through my walls and up into my attic and put female ends on both terminals. Then I hooked into that on one end using a router and on the other end using my laptop. I’m only getting download, no upload. What could be the cause?

Assuming I did a training course what all would I be able to do with this?

There is currently a new-work electrical box in the drywall from decades ago. If I were to run new wiring, could I reuse that electrical box, or should I abandon that box and dig in a new hole in the drywall to install an old-work electrical box?

I use a workstation through network protected using two cisco PIX and two symantec Gateway and symantec network security

I have two Vista PC’s on a wired network. When I transfer files between the two I only get around 10MB/sec for speed. Remote differential compression is disabled on both. Same result when using a CAT5e patch cable to directly connect them. Is this normal or should it be faster?
There is no anti-virus software installed on either machine.

I hardly know about internet and i am about to start a wireless connection. I want it for my house (not company etc). I have found one modem-router (Netgear DGN2000 Wireless Modem Router Annex A (270Mbps)) but will it have a strong signal that will cover the whole apartment without problems? Any help would be appreciated…or any other suggestions about modem routers etc…

I have worked since I was 17, high school grad, high IQ, very diverse work experience, including office, warehouse, picking/packing, assembly and customer service. I was laid off from my job of 5.5 years in June 05 because of company downsizing due to the losses in the telecommunication industry, and since then have been applying non-stop for jobs, only to get low paying temporary assignments through agencies.
I would dearly love, and desperately need a full time position that pays more than $10 an hour.
What do I need to do? HELP!

I have no access 2 broadband internet on home my computer its dial up. If I get a laptop will i be able to get broadband or wireless internet? Maybe use wi fi? And if so what will i need exactly?

Both computers are new hp’s with windows vista, if that helps to better answer.

Can someone please explain to me what exactly the frequency response is and how I find the frequency response of a cat5e cable? Or at least where to find this information? Thank you in advance.

I am interested to live in Australia, thus i want to create a voip calling service there. Now i am not sure of there are any individual courses for voip or completing ccna or similar networking courses will help me set up a voip network for my self.

Dragon I’m going to use it for the router, then going to connect it to my xbox 360. I want it long so i can connect it from the basement also.

I HAVE A DELL INSPIRON 1501 WINDOWS XP (SP2) INSTALLED BUT MY ADDRESS IS A 169.254 ONE AND I CAN’T CONNECT TO THE INTERNET. I TYPED IN THE COMMAND PROMPT ALL THAT IPCONFIG/RELEASE AND RENEW STUFF BUT IT WONT RENEW! SUM1 HELPED ONCE AND MY INTERNET WORKED BUT IT WAS THE COMMAND PROMPT FOR THE “NETSH WINSOCK” ETC. I DON’T REMEMBER THE CODE…CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP? I GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!

My laptop and desktop are connected to a router, I am able to connect with the laptop (wireless) but I can’t anymore with the desktop. I already tried to connect the cable directly to the modem and also tried to get conection using a usb network adapter without any luck. When I click on the IE window to diagnose the connection problem the log say:
Winsock diagnose:
Error attmpting to validate the winsock base provider:2
Network adapter status: Connected.
HTTP,HTPPS, FTP Diagnose:
FTP(passive):Error 12029 A connection with server can not establish
The same error message for HTPPS and HTTP, could not make a connection.
When I unplug the cable from the router it show an icon on the bottom right of the monitor with a message: “a network cable is unplugged”. When I plug it back the icon dissapear.
Seems like the computer can communicate with the router but can not connect to the internet.
oh! I have window xp

I already tried unplugging the router and modem for 1 min. still doesn’t work

but that mac address is not getting recieved by the dhcp server..
may i know the possible reasons for this?

if i change mac address and request for ip address with new mac , is there any problem getting ip address from dhcp server .

I cannot ping the gateway, but I am able to ping my DHCP, DNS which is not on my local network. So technically I used the gateway to get to the DHCP and DNS. What’s is wrong with my connection? I think I am using a Cisco 3550 switch.

As well it will not upload the yahoo games page either. I have tried everything including running the winsock program. Can anyone help?
