Outlook 2003 IMAP Configuration

Here are the steps required to configure your IMAP settings for Outlook 2003 and cfaith/gmail account: – Login in to your new cfaith/gmail account – Click on Settings – Click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP – In IMAP Access section, click Enable IMAP button – Click Save Changes – Exit out of your email account – Pull up your Outlook 2003 – Go to Tools – Go down to Email Accounts – Select “View or change existing email accounts” – Highlight the email account you wish to configure, then click the “Change” button – Change text in the “Incoming mail server (POP3)” to: imap.gmail.com – Change text in the “Outgoing mail server (SMTP)” to: smtp.gmail.com – Click the “More Settings” button – Click on the “Advanced” tab – Change number in the “Incoming server (POP3)” to: 993 – check the box “This server requires an encrypted connection” – Change number in the “Outgoing server (SMTP)” to: 465 – Check the box “This server requires an encrypted connection” – Click the “Server Timeouts” line in the middle (so the time that shows is about 4-5 mins) – Then click on the “Outgoing Server” tab – Make sure the box is checked: “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” – Click “OK” button – Click the “Next” button of the previous E-mail Account window – Click the “Finish” button – You should now be back to your Outlook 2003 basic interface. To test your new setting adjustments, simply click on the “Send/Receive” button at the top and your cfaith/gmail messages should now start flowing …

I have an existing peer-to-peer network with machines running XP. I bought a Dell with Server 2003 loaded. The install instructions say to hook all the existing machines to the new server during configuration. But it recommends the server provide DHCP services. If I disable DHCP on the existing router, how will the client machines get an IP address before the server is up and functioning? Seems like a chicken and egg scenario.

Related, I have DSL coming in to a linksys router. (Only one network port in the new server.) Do I need to keep the router between the DSL modem and my new gigabit switch, or will the server handle all the functions that the router now does (server has settings for PPPoE info)? Can the DSL modem connect directly to the switch? Do I need a cross-over cable to do this?

Click on the Advanced tab. 11. Place checkmarks next to This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)” for both the incoming and outgoing server. 12. Under Incoming Server, enter the port number 993 13. Under Outgoing Server, enter the port number 587 14. Press OK to close this window. 15. Click Next, then Finish to complete and close the setup wizard.
