Networking cables?
I’m making my own patch cable things, and I was wondering if I should use cat5e or cat6? Does it matter? Can every computer use cat6 or is there some kind of requirement or something? (I know next to nothing on this subject.) Thanks. I just want to know if all computers can use the cat6 cords.
Actually, I hope to somehow sell these…

Residential Structured Cabling Question?
My house is in the midst of extensive kitchen and bathroom remodeling and now has about 50% of all the plasterboard removed. Why don’t US remodeling workers cover their dirty shoes when walking on my expensive carpeting? A cultural thing?
So while crying about my carpets, I say to myself, “self, what a great time to put in structured cabling!”
My house is about 2000 sq/ft with an half basement/garage and upstairs living area with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths.
I’m thinking to run to absolutely every room: 1 cat6, 1 dual RG6, and 1 3e telephone cable.
Yes, I know that I could buy all this in one cable, but don’t want to do it this way. Are there any other cables I should be running along with the aforementioned, so that my house can some day be the “smart house of the future”?
I’m thinking to put the connector box downstairs in the basement somewhere because it would be convenient to access, and no room upstairs where it could be elegantly installed. Good idea? Anything else?
It surprises me that Americans almost always wear their outdoor shoes into the house. Then they let their infants crawl all over the floor, oblivious to the presence of germs and viruses.
I asked the workers nicely not to wear their outdoor shoes on my clean carpeting but was ignored.
How about sound/stereo cables?
Should I run those seperately?
Way to fix Xbox 360 Lag?
I am currently running xbox live with a wireless network adapter connected to a wireless network provided by comcast cable (fastest in this area). My question is if i were to connect a cat6 ethernet cable directly into the wireless router and into the back of my xbox would it make my connection any better/faster?

Windows Vista Network speed?
I am running Vista SP1. All I get out of the network transfer speeds from a NAS and a XP machine are 4 meg a second. I have a wrt54g router and everything is basically setup as 100 meg. The cables have all been verified and are cat6. The speeds between the NAS and the XP machine are decent but 4 meg is just to slow to transfer off this Vista machine.
What does everyone think? Any ideas? Whats the average network speeds on a 100 meg network anyway?
will this ethernet splitter work?
so i have a cat6 ethernet cable and i want to connect my laptop and my ps3, but my ethernet box that came from comcast only has 1 ethernet plug.
i was wondering if i could use this for a cat6, and if it will change the MHZ output

Can TV be run through Ethernet
Ok so I just bought an old 2 story house with an extremely small crawl space that does not have any telephone, cable, or Ethernet ran in it. I would like for my 3 bed rooms, the living room, the dining room, and possibly the kitchen to have a combination of Internet access and TV.
I already tried wireless but because of the old power wires and the materials in the walls, reception is very poor unless I’m in closet with the router.
I accept the fact that I need to run cables in the house however, I do not want to run both CAT6 and Coax. My current plan is to run 3 Ethernet cables per junction box per room. One for internet, one for TV, one for home audio control/MISC.
My Question: What are my options of running TV through Ethernet cabling? I want to avoid expensive bridging systems if possible!
Thanks.

I am using AirtelBroadband with the speed of 100mbps. its not in a network. but unfortunately it is too slow that a 4 minutes file is taking 20 to 30 minutes to load it. a 30 minutes file is taking almost 3-4 hours to download. why its happening like that? Do you a suggestion to solve this problem?

Internet network cable problems?
I wired one of my room using a CAT6 network patch cable.
The computer was previously connected to a wireless network through the same high speed cable via a router.
For some reason the wired system really slowed my internet speed.
How can this be, as I’m using the same high speed cable system.
Could it be that I’m using the wrong kind of cable?

Belkin Router and Cable help please?
Hi, i was looking to buy a Belkin N+ router. The description says it supports gigabit so 1000mbs. At bestbuy.com it says comes with a RJ45 cable. I was wondering if that could support a 1000mbs connection. When i type it in it says Cat5/5e, well which one is it, cause i know cat5e supports gigabit but cat5 doesnt, so do i need to buy a cat5e or cat6 cable or does the RJ45 work?
File corrupted after transfer through 1 gigabit network.?
Hello,
I recently bought a set of SMC Gigabit NIC and installed into both of my PC. Both PC are running Windows XP and the latest NIC driver. The cable is Cat6 and that SMC card support auto cross-cable.
Here is the problem I facing:
- When using 1Gbps speed, i copy a file from one to another. After that, i failed to use that file because of corrupted.
- I tried change the speed to 100Mbps and copy the same file again and it works.
So i decided to check on the files I copied. I wrote a program using VB that compare both files byte to byte. And i get difference in around 100MB. (The file was 400MB)
I would like to know is there any problem with Windows XP using gigabit ethernet? or is there any other cause?
Thanks.
*Sorry for my English.
Forgot to mentioned. I am using P2P. So, no switch or hub used.
