You will have to share folders to be able to access files.
1) Open your windows explorer (press Windows key + E) and create a folder anywhere on your harddrive.
2) Right-Click on that folder and select “share…” or something like that, I’m not really sure, not using Windows atm.
3) Unless you’re using a professional edition, you’re done
4) Access the folder over the network by once again opening your Windows Explorer and selecting “Network” on the left side. You will see all computers that are connected to your network (which in this case will be just two) and you can then double click on the computer you want to access. There the folder you created for sharing will show up.
This is the easiest way to explain.
first of all, you need to be on the same workgroup, to check this ( in xp ) right click on “my computer” or system in control panel.
Click on “Computer Name” click on the change button.
Change the name under workgroup on the one pc to be the same as the workgroup on the other ( they need to match )
Check that computer name on both pc’s are different.
Click ok, and if you have made any changes, restart your pc.
Once your pc has started up, both pc’s are logged into windows, go to the drive or folder you wish to share, right click on it, and click on properties. > then click on the sharing tab
don’t bother running the wizard, just click on “if you understand the security risks but want to share the files without running the wizard, click here”
Then click on “Just Enable File Sharing”
Then click on the box that says “Share this folder on the Network”
Click “Apply” and ok
Go to “My Network Places” on the other pc
Open “View Network Computers”
Open the icon with the name of the pc that you shared the folder on ( The name of the pc you’re not looking through”
Then open the folder you just shared.
