Does Korea really have the best / fastest Internet connection in the world?

I’ve noticed many answerers claiming that Korea has the best or fastest Internet connection in the world, but there are never any sources to support it.
When I lived in Taiwan, they said their Internet connection was the best in the world.
What country really has the fastest Internet connection in the world?

Thanks in advance.

it’s pretty much a tie between Japan and korea. but i’ve enjoyed 40Mbps consistantly here in seoul, can’t complain compare to what i use to get in the USA. And Korea is trying to update to 1 Gbps by 2013. http://www.pcworld.com/article/158799/south_korea_to_get_super_highspeed_broadband.html

I wouldn’t say fastest, I’ve used some pretty slow connections here, but definitely most widespread.

Here, you never need to pay to use Internet. Every place I’ve lived here, high speed broadband is provided free of charge. Quite often I can download at over one megabyte per second. I have lived in at least seven different establishments, and they all seem to have this.

Korea was the first country to have broadband in all schools. You can also access it in subway stations on public kiosks, at universities on public kiosks, at barbershops, etc.

When I wait to have my hair cut, I can use the Internet on their computer. When I am at a convenience store near Dongdaemun, they have an Internet PC for customers to use.

In many ways, Korea is overrated, but not in terms of Internet — I have never seen Internet anywhere else on earth quite like here. Not even in Japan. In fact, in many parts of Japan, it can be hard to find a place to use Internet. I’ve wandered for hours in some parts of Japan only to have to leech off the connection of some office worker.

So is it the fastest? Maybe. Is it the most widespread in the world? I have absolutely no doubt.

I suppose it is Korea since their technology is increasing. But it would be a tie, Korea and Japan.
